Hello Kim, this is a general query that i have.
Im actually very confused regarding the optional papers. I really dont know which two papers to choose. Well I know that i should be taking a paper that is relevant to my field but im not sure, in fact i dont know which field im interested in and i haven’t started working as yet.
Firstly, I really liked FM (F9) and scored the highest in it but i hated foreign currency, exchange rate stuff and risk management stuff. I found it difficult to understand these topics in FM and since these topics are likely to be examined in a greater detail in AFM so I’m not sure whether i should be taking this subject.
Secondly i liked audit but i scored just 50 in that. I found it challenging so again confused with it.
F6 was the only paper i really liked and scored good, but there are so many people who say tax laws keeps changing and so they say ATX isn’t a relevant paper to take.I’m very confused. I hope you can help me. Which paper has a greater scope according to you ? I’m from India and how do i enhance my chances of working in UK or abroad.
This might just be too much that im asking.
March 9, 2020 at 8:09 am #564963If you go to this page – for example for AAA https://www.accaglobal.com/an/en/student/exam-support-resources/professional-exams-study-resources/p7.html you will find a “Study support guide”. If you download these for each option – just a skim read through will give you “a flavour” of studying for each exam.
If you “hate” a topic that can be an obstacle – but you could try out some of John’s FM lectures on the topic on this website to see if that doesn’t help – I would suggest before studying AFM.
Yes AAA will be challenging – but there are some excellent resources to put students on the right track – they simply aren’t being used.
Unless you plan specifically to work in UK in a role in which ATX rather than TX would be useful there may not be a good reason to take it – and the tax laws do of course change every year – so it will have changed since TX and it will change again before you get to work here. But if you liked it, changes in tax rates and allowances isn’t such a big deal – they’re still provided in the exam – and the principles of the taxes doesn’t change.
I think if something interests you that’s as good a reason as any for choosing it as an option.
March 15, 2020 at 7:16 am #565273Hey Kim, i have decided to sit for AAA this june session. I’m planning to watch the lectures and read the OT notes. Having completed this i will be working out the entire BPP revision kit and reading the technical articles on the website.
Is the approach good enough to passing the exam or should i also read study text?March 15, 2020 at 9:22 am #565274You shouldn’t need a study text also – but you should familiarise yourself with the articles written “by a member of the examining team” available on ACCA www – rather than “save them up” to read all at the end you could read them at the end of each relevant chapter – it should be obvious from the brief narrative of the article what topics they relate to. You should not try to “learn” articles but rather feel that these consolidate your understanding of a topic. And the exam technique articles – in 5 parts (“sticky posted” at the top of this forum – you should read carefully when you are ready to start exam style and standard question. If you will sit the exam as CBE you will also have to familiarise yourself with this in the “practice platform” (all info available on ACCA’s www).
If you have forgotten assumed knowledge of AA you may also find our AA notes helpful as a reminder (our AAA notes refer to them on a few topics).
When you come to practice exam style and standard questions you may well find points in a published answer that isn’t specifically mentioned in our notes/lectures – especially on ethics (which may not be mentioned in a study text either). For this I find the ACCA Code of Ethics and Conduct useful (you can search it on key words) – this is the version relevant to the June 2019 exam: https://www.accaglobal.com/content/dam/ACCA_Global/Members/Doc/rule/ACCA-Rulebook%202018-effective-1-March-2018.pdf
