Should I write the report in the first person as in:
“I chose this company because…”
or, in the third person (as in the OBU exemplars):
“The author chose this company because…”
@Abdul Rafay – Most students choose to write Parts 1 & 2 in the 1st person and Part 3 (Findings and the Conclusions) in the 3rd person. This is perfectly acceptable. If you wanted to write it all in the 3rd person equally this would be acceptable too but it does tend at this level to sound a bit pompous when used in Parts 1 & 2 ! Contrary to what a lot of overseas students think, the RAP is NOT at the same level as a dissertation NOR IS IT a thesis (where the 3rd person IS prescribed throughout) – it is a semi-formal business report.which means the style can be slightly less formal. However you should make your work appear as professional as possible. The layout needs to be clear with good use of graphs and charts (rather than copious numbers in the text) and choose your vocabulary well as markers will want to see a professional form of expression – words such as “whopping” and “humongous” should be avoided and more appropriate business terms such as “significantly large” and “exceptional” or “material” should be used as appropriate.
