    Yes – you can use that calculator.

    (But remember to show workings – not just a final answer. You will get marks for trying to do things the right way even if you make a mistake somewhere. If all you do is put down an answer and it is wrong then you will get nothing – even if it was just a silly mistake.)

    Sir,

    If we use a financial calculator like BA2 plus, and the answer is right, will we get the marks for it if the workings are not done.

    Thank you.

    Should be OK….but high risk. If the answer is wrong and there are no workings then no marks.

    There can also be problems in some cases. EG if you wanted to look at the sensitivity of an answer to an assumption (let’s say in something like a DCF calculation) then it can be difficult to do if you haven’t set out the calculation for yourself.

    Sir,
    In the remote exams which we take from home during the covid, we are not allowed to use scratch papers, thus, doing the workings for sections A and B would be difficult in the digital scratch pad, except for Sec C questions which we must show our workings. For the Sections A and B, it would not be necessary to show our workings isn’t it? Sorry, it is my first time taking ACCA exam, that is why I am being inquisitive.

    Where possible, you should show workings eg simply writing out what you are doing.

    EVA = NOPAT – WACC x Opening capital = 1,000 – 0.12 x 5,000 = 400

    I think you have a spreadsheet too which effectively sets our your calculations
