if the term hierarchy refers to distribution of authority , responsibility, and accountability
does authority passes downward? or upwards? or laterally??
Authority normally passes downwards, from manager to supervisor to lower level employees.
Sometimes it can pass horizontally or diagonally. For example, the IT manager can have authority over everyone in the organisation with respect to IT matters, such as implementing the latest virus-checkers.
