    Hello,
I just got my result and have unfortunately failed. It stings a lot, I thought I put in a lot of effort. Anyways, what should my next steps be for the next period 40 submission?

I am a student from Pakistan, so please make any suggestions for a good mentor, preferably online due to the current circumstances of COVID19.

Sorry to hear that you failed but as the pass rate is about 60- 65% there will always be some disappointments. However as long as you have other submission opportunities it is not the end of the world even though it may feel like it right now.

Advice very much depends on WHY you failed and what the topic was.

Take a look at the article on Open Tuition about understanding the marker feedback

You may also find it useful to read through the following thread as you probably had some similar feedback in places

Someone please help me out, my topic was 17 in recent submittion period 17. The examiner told me that they failed me on a technical aspect that I WAS UNABLE TO SUBMIT A SPREADSHEET which was a requirement of the project. But, my mentor told me that do not need one for this topic.

Please guide me on how appeal as I have worked so hard on this project. Following are my remarks:

Feedback is provided where a criteria is a Fail
    Research Report
    Technical and Professional Skills
    1. Understanding of Accountancy/Business Models: Pass
    2. Application of Accountancy/Business Models: Pass
    3. Evaluation of Information, Analysis And Conclusions: Pass
    4. Presentation of Project Findings: Pass

Overall Technical and Professional Skills: Pass

    Graduate Skills
    5. Communication: Pass
    6. Information Gathering and Referencing: Pass
    7. Information Technology: Fail
You have not submitted a spreadsheet. It is a project requirement to include a
spreadsheet and within it demonstrate your proficiency in generating data from the use of
    formulae.
    Overall Graduate Skills: Fail
    Research Report overall assessment: Fail

    Skills & Learning Statement
    8. Self-reflection: Pass
    9. Communication Skills (inc Presentation): Pass
Skills and Learning Statement overall assessment: Pass
    Overall
    Overall RAP Result: Fail
You have produced a competent project and reflective statement but unfortunately this is
a technical fail for the lack of the submission of a spreadsheet.

Sadly as the marker has said ‘this is a technical fail as you MUST upload a spreadsheet. If your turn to Appendix 1 of the Assessment Criteria and scroll down to IT you will see that you have to demonstrate use of formulae.

There is scope within Topic 17 to do this depending upon the organisation. Usually you can calculate some of the following: percentage change in share price over the period; comparisons in directors’ salaries with average worker; net debt; dividends paid as a percentage of profit – it all depends on the company chosen and possibly what the Corporate Governance issues were exactly what is appropriate

It is a shame you were unaware of this requirement but it is relatively easy to resolve.

@GillianM Thank you for your reply Miss. As I told before my mentor said that I didn’t need to submit any excel for topic 17 so I didn’t do it at the time of submitting my project. I Have discussed it with my mentor and he/she said that I cannot appeal the decision either as it was a requirement and the only option I have is to resubmit the project (Only spreadsheet file and resubmission statement).

Can you please guide me further on what option I must take and how should I puruse it further?

As your mentor says unfortunately you cannot appeal as the Assessment Criteria are clear on the requirements. I have already guided you above with suggestions. If you have further questions on this then turn to your mentor

    Hi Gillian

I failed my RAP in period 40 as I have not included any formulae in spreadsheets (just graphs and charts). The topic I chose was 20 and the rest of the RAP is assessed as a pass. I understand I will need to make changes to the spreadsheets only and write a resubmission statement but am worried I can only use 1 or 2 kinds of formulae without changing my research substantially. To address the issue I have calculated year-on-year percentage changes in share prices and delivery volumes with the use of formulae and included this in my graphs.

My question is if this would be sufficient since the topic I chose doesn’t involve a lot of calculations.

I am also worried about the word count. I was close to the limit of 7500 words. The word count covered everything from the front page to conclusions, including charts and graphs content. If I change the graphs to reflect the use of formulae, I will go over the word count. Will this be an issue and if yes am I allowed to change written parts of RAP to reduce the word count?

Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Word count – strip out all unnecessary words – particularly in Part 1 – the truth is the marker doesn’t give a damn why you chose the subject!

Consider effect on profits and share price under Carroll’s Economic Responsibilities and percentages falls year on year. Totals and averages for deliveries. You don’t necessarily have to include all of the calculations in your report just as long as you use the formulae in the spreadsheet. Depending on the data other possibilities are using functions such as MIN and MAX, vlookups or IF.
