Dear Sir,
I attempted F8 exam in Dec ’17, but did not pass. For the first time I’m very confused, as I thought it went more or less ok and I should be fine passing it. I just don’t know what I did wrong. I’m not a native English speaker, maybe I didn’t make myself clear enough answering questions…? It’s hard to say, if you don’t get any feedbacks.
Thus I would like to ask the following questions:
1. What are the guidelines and what is the best approach to study F8 in a nutshell? How shall I get myself prepared for a success?
2. I’ve been studying BPP study text. However I’ve found recently some posts which claim Kaplan study text is better, as BPP is confusing. Can you please advise?
3. I’ve briefly looked at test of controls at Kaplan study text. It’s better explained, however it does not test clearly assertions, while BPP book does. Which one has a right approach? How important are the assertions when it comes to test of controls?
Thank you.
With kind regards,
Kate
Sorry to hear about your F8 difficulties.
1 Practise questions. If you can’t answer them, use that to go back to your notes or text.
2 I have used both and I think both are fine. It is a matter of taste.
3 Asertions are more important in substantive tests, but if you can identify a relevant assertion or purpose of the test, it is much better to mention it. Eg, inspect copy despatch notes to ensure they are attached to copy invoices to test that invoicing is complete. Check orders for managers’ signatures to ensure purchases are authorised.
