Greetings Mike,
I got 40% in f7. that was my second attempt.
I am so gutted because I was sure I will get 51 atleast.started acca to get back to work sometime this year after my boy starts school.
I have studied accounts at university, but not been to work for past 8 years.Ratios and taxation were not my strong point.
I did put in enough work in doing group accounts, mini exercises, ppe was pretty clear, eps, leasing. group accounts I was taking time speed wise.
Been raking my head where my preparation went wrong.I am aiming to resit again in September. Not feeling motivated to start studying now.
I have to start studying now coz I cant study during kids school holidays. I got two boys.Need some advice on how to prepare this time.
Thank you for your time and efforts you put in replying our questions.
Many thanks.April 18, 2017 at 3:41 pm #382470Starting tomorrow – and I mean Wednesday 19 April! – work through your revision kit / exam kit and do those mcqs and mtqs over and over again
Endless, mindless repetition
Don’t write your answers in the kit itself – write them on a separate piece of paper and that way you won’t be influenced in subsequent attempts by your earlier attempts
On the F7 home page you’ll find some revision lectures where I work through past exam questions 1 and 2 (consolidations and preparation of single entity financial statements
Obviously these are no longer typical exam questions because of the changed format but the content and severity are comparable so work through those questions with me
You’ll only pick up speed by endless hours of familiarisation and that’s achieved by hour after hour of practice
Work through all the examples in the course notes and as many different mcqs and mtqs as you can get your hands on – if you have a BPP revision kit, see if you can’t arrange to swap kits with another student that has a Kaplan kit
Do NOT copy the material that you swap and warn the other student also not to copy the material. But you can borrow their book for 2 or 3 weeks and they can use yours for the same time period – but warn them NOT to mark their attempts in the book itself!
You’ve done accounting at uni but … that was some time ago and understandably you could very well have forgotten what you learned.
IF you’re feeling rusty with double entry principles, I suggest that you watch John Moffat’s F3 lectures
But it seems to me, from what you have written, that time is the major factor and you will only sort that issue out by practice
Of course, whenever you hit a problem area that you can’t resolve, post on this Ask ACCA Tutor forum and I shall get back to you
OK?
