Hi everyone, I hope study is going well for yee, can anyone please advise me if these open tuition lectures are still suitable for me even though I am going to sit the Irish variant exam or will they just confuse me and complicate things for me? Also has anyone sat the UK tax variant exam even though they are living in Ireland? My problem is that I feel I need to watch some tax lectures but I cannot afford any online courses available here. Has anyone else had this problem? I would really appreciate some advice
March 15, 2018 at 11:33 am #442701Hi eveadams, I’ve no advice as I’m in same boat, I’ve decided to study the uk variant and sit exam in June by cbe in north Dublin, I just couldn’t afford the Irish variant tuition as the book providers don’t even publish an Irish variant anymore. No idea if it’s the right or wrong decision!
March 22, 2018 at 6:40 pm #443500Hi guys,
I had the same issue but my boss encouraged me to sit the Irish variant as the company is paying for it. I’m studying through studyonline.ie
For the books, I got “Irish taxation: Law and Practice”. It’s a bundle of 2 books: Vol1. is the course with examples, Vol.2 is an exercise book.

December 6, 2019 at 3:25 pm #555312Hi there
Just looking for some information on this too. I was hoping to sit Tax next, but it seems its only available during the June & December sittings, is this correct?
What books should be used for this? How did people find the content in comparison to the usual bpp/kaplan formats? All going well I will sit FR in March, and then do Tax in June
Any advice gratefully received!
January 7, 2020 at 8:55 pm #557090Hi I did Tax in December and used the Paula Byrne and the Irish law and practice book I mentioned previously, These are more than enough IMO, the course is pretty standard you can practice what type of questions will come up. These two books along with looking at past papers and types of question will be enough to pass it.
April 18, 2021 at 4:22 pm #618133Hi all,
I’m sitting the Irish variant in June and have bought Paula Byrne’s books. Trying to get through the material at the moment and am finding it incredibly heavy.
I’ve never studied tax before and I don’t find that the books help in building a solid foundation of knowledge (maybe this is just how tax is). The level of detail the books go into seems really exhaustive. I’m wondering does the book go into excessive detail or is it the correct level for whats tested on the exam? I’ve passed the other foundation and applied exams and have never found it this difficult to concentrate when studying.
Any feedback and advice on study methods would be appreciated on this as I’m struggling at the moment.
September 6, 2021 at 9:14 pm #634644Hi, How did it go on the June sitting?
What method did you use in the end?
I signed up for the December session and I would like to start to study these days, if you passed the exam can we exchange the learning materials maybe?
I feel really hopeless after realizing that UK materials are way easier to have than the Irish ones.Regards,
