Hello Everyone at Open-Tuition,
*Background*
– A-Levels in Accounting, Economics and B.Std.
– HND in Accounting.
– Top up from University of Sunderland (Distance L.) through RDi (now Arden) UK (I reside in Pakistan).*Help with*
Self-Study Plan/Schedule: Although I did my HND and Top-Up Degree with pretty much self-study and I do have Accounting background but I believe those were relatively easier as compared to what ACCA Exams would be and although I am confident as I have never failed in my life, I still don’t want to be over-confident. I am not good at disciplining myself or finding the self-motivation every day to ensure I stay on track and no matter what I do, I should spare some time for studies.
I currently work from home (online) from 5-6pm till 2-3am local time (M-F), I don’t have many distractions or any specific responsibilities, thankfully and I believe I can go for self-studying BUT — I really “need” some great study schedule or plans that worked for you — can you suggest a “studying schedule” keeping in mind this ‘daily routine’ please?
Thank you very for much for your time, looking forward to helpful answers.
Good day to You!
January 22, 2016 at 8:59 am #297118I did ACCA by self studying for all exams (except F6 local variant) so it’s definitely doable. Because you work at home you will have to clearly separate studying and working. So when you work you don’t think about studies and other way around.
I suggest studying in other room that you work in. This will help your brain and organism to switch between different ‘modes’. I don’t really know which hours you find better for study – the super early morning just after work or midday / early afternoon before work.
You might find interesting a plan that you study a chapter before work (OT notes + videos) and you do just 1-2 questions after work as practice. (Rev Kit or past paper related to that chapter).
If you write down your plan on piece of paper (calendar) it has more chances of actually happening – but don’t make too ambitious because you will feel bad that you are not keeping up. Start with small steps, small studying to see how it goes and as the time goes by you can make adjustments.
1. OT notes and videos
2. Technical Articles
3. Revision Kit + Past Papers with Answers and Examiner ReportsAlthough I always bought Study Text i never really used it – just occasionally when I had to check something more.
January 23, 2016 at 1:00 pm #297540Hey seagoat,
Thank you for your response. Overall your suggestions have been quite helpful and realistic I’d say, just a bit more help if you may..
Since I am planning to go for F6 and F7 in June, how would you advise to tackle that with the work and weekends? I don’t have much of a social life and I think I can make more time on weekends as well.
Moreover, how many hours of quality study-time or say chapters I should be covering in a day if I start from Mid-Feb?
For study material, I have access to Kaplan’s printed one and I will be taking your suggestion and still buy it for any detailed reviews. But are OT notes all up to date? And should I still buy the Revision Kits?
Thank you very much and looking forward to your advise.
Good day!
January 23, 2016 at 2:02 pm #297546F6 with F8 or F7 with F8 are better combinations. Are you exempted from F5?
January 23, 2016 at 4:00 pm #297584usmanqureshi: Our free lectures and free lecture notes are always up-to-date. They are reviewed after every exam and after every change to the syllabuses. Although our free Study Guides suggest the best questions to attempt, you should still buy Revision Kits because they contain so many exam standard questions, and practice is vital.

I am just waiting for some final transcripts to be received to apply for exemptions, I have exemptions till F1-F4, but there’s a very good chance I’d be exempted from F5 and F9 as well. Just a few things to iron out and then, I’d be good to go. If I don’t exepmtions, I’d still like to keep the sequence and go for F5 and F6 — what do you think? Or May be I can begin with F6, F7 and incase of no exemption for F5 and F9, I go for F5 and F8 in Dec?
John Moffat,
Thank you so very much for those “FREE” lectures and notes, truly appreciate. I wanted to go for CIMA first but the support for ACCA at this site is amazing and completely changed my mind and CIMA’s exams are also computer-based, I prefer paper based exams. Thank you for your suggestions – I will then go on and purchase the ‘Exam Kits’ as well. One more thing, can we download the OT notes for Mar 2016 and use for June 2016?
Lastly, I’ve heard that we have to use black pen to write the exams — is it ballpoint? Any other such rules that I should be aware of like specific calculators to use?
Thank you again — these responses have been quite quite helpful!
January 29, 2016 at 2:12 pm #298471Officially – No exemptions for F5 and F9… that’s a bummer. :/ Now I’d have to go for F5 and F6 I believe. :'(
