    Hi everyone!

I am left with P2, P4 and one more P level paper at the moment. I was thinking of going for p6 as i have heard that it is relatively easy to pass as compared to other two (P5 and P7)

however, one problem is that i had an exemption in f6. So i have no notes, or b/f knowledge from that subject.

I wanted to ask how possible is it to sit and pass this paper without giving/studying for F6? Is there any overlap in the portion?

Any hep would be much appreciated! giving the exams in June 2017 as a full time self study student!!

    Thanks 🙂

I’ve just passed P6 but have been doing 1 exam every 6 months so i had done F6 in June 2012.

The P6 exam is the biggest text book of any paper, at about 1200 pages from Kaplan. Also everything in F6 is examinable, so prior knowledge is useful. As so much is examinable the text book covers it again.

I wouldn’t say P6 is easier than the other P papers, quite the opposite. I suspect the lower pass mark for P7 is from the wordy nature of the paper vs the technical nature of tax (even if you’re explaining your answer more than calculating it. )

I think people tend to think they’re doing ok on papers like P7 when they’re really not at exam standard. It’s more obvious you’re not exam ready with P6 so there’s less of a false sense of security, meaning people study more. The length of the P6 course (10 lectures vs 6 for P7) often puts off a large group of people, so perhaps the demographics of those who attempt it are different to those that do the other P options.

In terms of what to pick, I’d base it on if you have a preference for wordy or numerical papers.

P6 is not easy to pass so please don’t be under any illusion. It is a very challenging paper which requires you to know alot of the tax rules inside out and upside down! The text book is scary! Just look at the ACCA pass rates for P6 and you will see the average pass rate in lower 30’s. The good thing about P6 however is it’s very black and white, it’s either right or its wrong, there is no in between like say P7 where you could spend the whole exam time talking about one area waffling away. If you are good with figures and are good at learning factual things then i would recommend P6. I did both P6 and P7 and I passed P6 first time and P7 on my third attempt because i am more suited to figures and facts than writing essays. Some people are the opposite so it depends on what you like. Personally i found P6 very enjoyable as alot of what i learnt i could use in my day to day life (tax rules etc) so i was more interested in this subject than my other ACCA modules which really helped me grasp P6. In regards to F6 i did F6 but i took P6 then a long time after F6 so i don’t think it is relevant as you will be taught the stuff again. I certainly didn’t remember anything from F6 and it wasn’t a problem.

I was exempt from F6 – did it 7 years ago and I found P6 very very tough

89% pass first attempt – took away 2 months of hard work

P7 & P5 are a lot easier than P6 so don’t be confused on that

Thank you for such comprehensive and relevant replies, guys!

I will reconsider my position on giving the P6 exam in greater detail after this. I am currently in the process of finishing off P4 and should be done by 31st of January. Tough paper, this!

I will then be left with exactly 4 months at my disposal until the June exams for the other 2 P papers!!!

Luckily i’m not working currently until June and am damn motivated to finish ACCA off and get my affiliate status in July!

Once again, thank You so very much!!

All the best to you’ll 🙂
