I am currently studying towards my first Skills level paper in June (F5). I am currently deciding what to pair it with as I am looking at taking two skills exams in the June sitting. From what I can see F9 fits nicely with F5 as both are management accounting based (which helps as my previous exam was F2 so the ideas are still fresh) and there is also 4 days between exams, which I think will be of benefit to catch my breath.
My only concern was whether F9 is too great of a step up from what I have done so far (F1-3 and F5) as one of my first Skills level exams? From my studies of F5 so far I am coping very well and feel quite comfortable with how the questions are structured etc and also have plenty of study time but want to know if F9 is a big step up from F5 and I should maybe look at pairing with another Skills paper or are all of the F4-F9 skills paper’s generally around the same difficulty level? Hope that makes sense and thanks in advance.

I sat for both of them at the same time and both of these papers compliment each pretty well. Although F9 is a pretty unique paper on its own, it has the same difficulty level as other fundamental papers (Barring F1, F2 and F3). In fact some people would find F5 to be much harder than F9. So if you’re comfortable with F5, F9 won’t pose much problems.
February 3, 2014 at 9:12 pm #154988There is no real connection between F5 and F9.
They do both follow on from Paper F2, but from different parts of F2. F5 follows on from the management accounting part of F2 (costing, budgeting, variances etc.) whereas F9 follows on from the financial management part of F2 (discounted cash flow, working capital management etc).
However F4 to F9 are all of a similar difficulty level.

Thanks Zonedout001, that’s good to know.
