This is the last F I have to do. off all the exams Ihave done this is the most absurd one yet. Not sure what the examiner most of the time was asking pure nonsense. UHS was a crazy question, It took me 20 mins to read it in the first place. No ABC, no Throughput, No use of Formulas, no real costing techniques. It was more like a business management paper not a purely costing and budgeting one. Im sorry but it was pure sh8t. The examiner must of been on Crack when She was writing it.

Q1 seemly ok, but I am not sure about b, OUTSOUCING is cheaper for one of them.
    Q2 okay, no big problems
Q3 what is that? seasonal? especally b) rolling budget, but what is the meaning? (disaster)
Q4 variance is OK, but budgeting? and TQM, what’s that? it’s real belongs to F5?
Q5 here we go, easy mark, but I am so stuip to use the new profit not controlling profit. (becaseu the questions before, what am i do in Q5). only one easy mark in the last question?
I am so sick, I guess i need do one more time on DEC.

    Hi all
Just reading all your comments about difficulty etc…I didnt think it was straight forward but it was by no means as difficult as you are all making it sound

the key to passing ANY acca exam is you should knw ALL areas of the syllabus…no matter if they have been tested 100 times or not at all…

seasonal variation was a simple computation…and budgets question with it was asked in previous papers just not in the same context

    1) was a bit tricky but the 5 marker at the end was simple

2 parts a and b were an easy 10 marks

    4) was the simplest variance question EVER FACT!! the 8 marker on TQM was fine if you knew the syllabus

    5) the annualising of the numbers threw me off a bit as i bet it did with most ppl…just have to do your best…for part c i depreciated the asset for 6 months but i forgot to take it off the net profit when i added on the extra contribution…the rest of the discussion was based around how good ri and roi were as tools for decisions

This paper would present difficulties to the people doing P5 let alone F5. Unfair paper. On the upside though since the past rate will be so low may go under 20% perhaps the markers will go a little easy on us. TQM complete guess, I recall reading about it in my technicians exam 5 years ago, complete guess, I might of well been asked to write about Totally Queer Men for all I know.

It was too hard for me…i was taking F5 for the 2nd time and really i am very disgusted to know that i’ll have to retake the F5 paper…really no chance of passing,,,ridiculous questions…

Question 1 was shit for me….

On the whole it was a bullshit exam, it could well be the hardest F5 paper ever and the pass rate will definitely confirm it in 9 weeks …

    Question

the tihng is not what we can expect because really we can expect everything what’s in book. The thing is that we have to be carefull not only about numbers and doing the calculations but about every word in the text as well.

In real life, does you manager really want you to calculate annual ROI basic on 1 months contribution? I don’t think so

A strangely small pass rates for F5 and ACCA hasn’t noticed that? Maybe it’s something wrong with exam not with us????????????

First time taking the exam and it was so hard. Q2 and Q5 were ok and I think I scored decent marks. The rest was major guessing. I don’t understand what the examiner gets from setting such a hard paper? A lot of the stuff was hardly relevant.

There was no EMA accounting even though she has written an article on this and it has not been examined as of yet. I have F6 tomorrow and I’m not looking forward to that at all! What on earth is TQM by the way?

Onwards and upwards as they say. I hope everyone managed to do ok.

Does anyone know if they scale down marks if the average pass rate is ridiculously low?? Used to do it for Uni exams not sure for ACCA?

    Cheers

@kapslock TQM – total quality management – reduces the number of defects and focuses on quality not on cost as standard costing does 🙂

I think I made the assumption that TQM overrules any kind of standard costing principles. As the std cost card does not apply they can produce high end products disregarding the cost element with the aim of appealing to the high quality market…

the part b to question 3 was about top down budget setting process? or did i miss it and it was about a rolling budget?

The exam was stuff, why bring such difficult questions.?
I put in so much effort in preparing for this paper and was confident.
Going through the paper, I just couldn’t believe it. Disaster!

Probably toughest ever, ridiculous paper, nothing on costing technique ? Certainly this paper covered the least popular syllables of this paper , and has indeed caught students by surprise.
Did my best to answer all the questions, whether this was enough, remains to be seen

cristina i meant the second part of the seasonal question for 10 marks on budget setting process used….was a rolling budget we were supposed to discuss or was it about management setting the budget by themselves and imposing the budget (top down budgeting??

@Parallel Universe – tell me about it. I’m hoping F6 won’t be as bad. Still brushing up on my VAT and inheritance tax, though first 3 Q’s should be ok. How are you feeling for it?
