When i did question 1 on Maximin, EV etc (which i hated when i initially studied it!) I thought to myself, full marks! I was so impressed with myself. I thought ‘Yes I’ve got this paper nailed’…..Then as the questions progressed……..let’s just say, i have my doubts! Everyone has so many issues with F5, can’t the pass mark be lowered to like, maybe 25 🙂

I did similar calculations but removed not just 0.5 for disposal but also the profit element relating to unsold goods that would have to be disposed. e.g. if 350,000 units were produced but only 280,000 were sold then it would be 350,000 * 5 = 1, 750, 000 expected profit. and then i would calculate 350,000 – 280,000 = 70,000 unsold items multiplied by 5 profit + and 70,000 *0.5 disposal cost. Therefore :total profit on 350, 000 production is 1,750,000
profit on unsold 70,000 @ 5 (350,000)
disposal cost on 70,000 @ 0.5 ( 35,000)
actual profit 1,365,000 – goes to payfoff table.Yeah but u can do this way, even if u produce 350 000 on average weather u can sell ONLY 280 000, so its 5 * 280 000 and (350 -280) * .5 =1.365 eitherway same answer
June 13, 2011 at 6:25 pm #84768i got TPAR for procedure C of 7
the demand equation was as you wrote above being a=750 and 0,015. and price of air conditioner 399,99, so 400.
learning curve: marginal cost 49,99.
ROI 15 and 17 and RI was higher where ROI was lower. cant remember it exactly.

Ok paper. One had to cover the entire syllabus however to perform well in this paper. I did have some problems with throughput question and the flexed budget, but all in all the paper was better than I expected.

Very similar just on the 5th i had exactly the same quantity of C as mentioned in the part B of the question like “690” although the profit came up above 5 mil which doesn’t look well to me…the 1Q was easy just people were not familiar but in practice was ok…the flexi budget i used the actual demand for the revenue calculation and for the cost i updated as per commentary…not sure is the correct approach the variances there i didn’t figure out..also few mark no the Balanced scorecard for me overweight …10 mark….on overall the difficult of the paper is due to the part of the syllabus examined not expected by the most but throughput and quantitative part (price, demand,) should have been expected for me

The exam was not difficult, but there were far too many calculation requirements. I revised a lot, but i needed more practice with the problems to make sure i finish the calculations in the allocated time for the question.
June 13, 2011 at 6:47 pm #84772yes for C I also got the excess deman mentioned in another part of the question. but that means nothing, only that we all got a TPAR for C lower than for A and B.

question 2 was really disappointing..
im not sure about question 1….
how did u guys do 1 aJune 13, 2011 at 7:01 pm #84774I didnt expect those topics neither… I try to do the table but i think is totally wrong. Q2 i think i did it more or less well, Q3 more or less as well, less the deffinition of the variances mix, Q4 i do not think i will get any point… and i did not have time for Q5… but where was my Breakeven point and EMA?? I think i will have to do it again in Dec…
June 13, 2011 at 7:05 pm #84775F5 was not the easiest, as one said. I written in this session F9, and it was very easy for me, what I can’t say about F5. Flexed budget is not properly presented in the text book, so if the person does not attend the lectures it’s very difficult to guess how to solve it. I’ve prepared for the exam F5 very properly but still not sure that I’ve passed.
And I see that the feetback statistics on F5 was the worst (hard – 39%, Disaster – 28%) in comparison with for example P1,F9. Guys I wish you all Good Luck to pass and hope that the examiner will have a goodwill to put all of us PASS mark!!!-)))June 13, 2011 at 7:06 pm #84776AnonymousInactive- Topics: 0

can any 1 tell me that y the sales quantity abd sales mix variances were fav and adverse as they asked in q.and what other kinf of 2 variances we can get from above informatoion as in q 3.please
June 13, 2011 at 7:09 pm #84777I wouldn’t say it was tough. I prefer to say challenging because challenges can be conquered 😀
From the posts I’ve seen I’m now more confident with what I did for Q1 🙂
Flexed budget required a lot of thinking but I eventually got it out I believe. Just concerned with the Energy Costs cause although budget and actual had it in 300,000+ I ended up with over 700,000 🙁 just sounds wrong
I guess it wouldn’t help to say my TPAR for C was 0.35 LOL…..I had NO idea what i was doing with that question. The only thing I got correct in it was probably quoting the TPAR formula…after that it all went downhill.
Balanced scorecard was a good question I did that first. I got ROI of 15% for Div A and 17.7% for Div B. RI was about $2.2m for A and about $2.55 for B. Then said if choose ROI as performance measure A will resist the project but B will accept and that although A has lower ROI it’s RI is higher.
Overall, very challenging…..just that throughput thing took me for a whirl….I expect to pass if only marginally. But a pass is a pass 😉

June 13, 2011 at 7:12 pm #84779For demand equation I got optimum units to sell was about 24,864 and price was about $344. Anyone else got same answer for this?
June 13, 2011 at 7:13 pm #84780wat was dre in exam i dont know….but i pray dat i pass…INSHAALLAH……

June 13, 2011 at 7:18 pm #84782Does somebody remember the marks for each point/subpoint?
June 13, 2011 at 7:41 pm #84783June 13, 2011 at 7:57 pm #84784i had well prepared the new additions to this paper.Could not believe not even one was examined. The paper was very hard. It will be a surprise if I manage to have a pass.

unpredicted questions!!!maybe it’s easy to pass but very difficult to reach high marks…
June 13, 2011 at 8:53 pm #84787well guys
this paper was totally unexpected, all the popular areas were ignored by this foolish examiner, he even don’t know how can you make F5 paper without financial and non financial performance evaluation question on it. he is such a dirty camel.June 13, 2011 at 9:12 pm #84788that was really hard!so much writing and info squished in 5 Qs. first i looked at question and thought I wont even try will just leave blank but then slowly read and did without thinking as i would have to do it in all 3-4 Qs so just wrote what ever came in my head and also struggled with throughput and liner

ahahah..i might fail as well..so chill guys.
June 13, 2011 at 10:00 pm #84790Ive worked solid on F5 since October last year. I downloaded all the previous exams from ACCA website, bought the revision kits, but that exam today was in my opinion totally unfair. One of the questions, worth 10 marks, was discuss a balanced scorecard? Most of the people I spoke to afterwards hadn’t even heard of it. I feel cheated out of 8 months solid hard work and pounds in exam fees and study materials and college. I feel so angry, depressed and frustrated with ACCA for setting such scenarios that quite frankly are near impossible to answer in the time allowed. What are they testing? Our knowledge of the subject or the ability to work out a labyrinth of sums before arriving at the data you need to answer the question? So so annoyed. I’ve definitely failed that one.
