are their separate marks for workings?Let say in a situation where my answer is correct , yet all the workings are not written down , will my marks be reduced.

I don’t know why you have headed this question “F5 essay questions” because workings are not relevant in essay parts of questions – only in the calculation parts 🙂

For section A, any workings will not be looked at – it is marked by computer and your answer is just right or wrong.

For section B, you must show your workings. If you look at the marking schemes (which are at the very end of the examiners answers) you will see that each bit of workings is marked separately. If you just write down the answer then the marker has no idea whether you guessed it, or got the right answer by accident (or even saw it on someone else desk and copied it!!).

Also,it helps you. You are bound to make silly mistakes in the middle of the exam when you are working under time pressure. If it is clear from your workings that you know what you are doing, then silly mistakes only lose half a mark.

The examiner is much more concerned that you can prove you understand – she is not testing whether you are good at using a calculator or not 🙂

Back home, we divide questions into multiple choice questions and the rest as essay question, so hence my mistake.
I did the ACCA sample paper and in the question with pay off table (question 3) I just made the table without showing the workings ( I did it in my head).
So I suppose I should take time and write it down just in case.

Best there (when it is very repetitive) is to show the workings clearly for 2 or 3 of the various outcomes but not waste time showing for all of them.
That way the marker can check you know what you are doing, and will realise that if any of the others without workings are wrong, then it is just a silly (1/2 mark) mistake 🙂

Yes – it is a good idea to do that.
