Hi Mike, i want to know how the examination for paper f4 will be in december 2014, i know it is 70% mcq and 30% written but i want to know how the examination will be if i opted for CBE… Then how the 30% will be examined?? Will it be on the same day as soon as cbe has finished or what else?
Thank youJuly 5, 2014 at 1:36 pm #178202I believe for CBE the written portion will be typed – which could be a benefit for candidates who type quickly and accurately! Though I wonder if the marking will make allowances for the fact that people tend to type more quickly than they can write longhand.
July 7, 2014 at 10:55 am #178331I’m not convinced on the comments on the written portion as commented above. From some other literature I have seen I believe the longer questions may well have a “drop down” box to select the appropriate answer. I could be wrong but I can’t see the CBE being rolled out with a requirement that a marker is still required to review the scripts. Surely the CBE is there to save the ACCA money and not require a “human” element in order to determine whether a pass or a fail?
July 8, 2014 at 6:36 am #178379That’s the first I’ve heard of a drop-down box. Surely that’s just an extension of mcqs! However, I have no idea how the “written” parts are going to be assessed! But I am interested to see how this issue is to be addressed
July 21, 2014 at 2:07 pm #179291This query seems to be one that continually reappears and as my BPP study and revision texts have arrived today (and also offer no further clarification on whether a provision mark is given “there and then”), I’ve sent an email over to ACCA to see if they can clarify the point. Fingers crossed we might get to the bottom of how this exam is to be marked which (from a personal point of view as student looking to sit in early 2015) is of major interest!

HI mike sir can u confirm me that F4 is not CBE as it have 20 short question
July 22, 2014 at 7:09 am #179337It is intended to be CBE in the near future but, at present, we are all in the dark until the ACCA provides us with a candle, a match and a tunnel!
July 22, 2014 at 9:22 am #179351Dear All
After a few emails to ACCA (initially they just kept referring to me to the generic webpage for F1,F2&F3), I received the following response clarifying the CBE situation:
“As of yet, the specimen for the CBE version has not yet been released.
I would advise that you use the following link to be kept up to date with the CBE element as and when it becomes available:
The exams will be totally multiple choice in CBE format.”
I guess it’s just a case of wait and see for the CBE specimen to be released and updated on the website…and then get booked in!!
July 22, 2014 at 8:07 pm #179403So, thanks for this Chris. Your original posit of a drop-dead – sorry, drop down menu gains more credibility.
I’m still fascinated to see how this works! Why not just 100% multi choice?
July 23, 2014 at 8:48 am #179429So am I! It’s a shame in respect of the continued delay. I originally was planning the F4 for this December but dropped as prefer the CBE route as initial understanding was that CBE would be rolled out by Dec 14. On a personal note it would not surprise me if the November roll out plan passes by without anything being in place too! It means 5 papers next year rather than the anticipated 2 in Dec 14 with 4 papers in 2015! I shall ask my wife to email me regular pictures of my daughter and leave “post-it” notes to communicate as with 5 papers next year I suspect I will not be seeing much of one another!
PS – Less said about the cricket the better…………………

help meAugust 9, 2014 at 4:58 pm #188981On ACCA it says the global and English variants will be available as cbe from November 19th 2014. However when I try to find a centre to sit it they say they aren’t available till the new year so should sit the paper version in December instead :/
There is a practice cbe on https://www.iassessserver.com/accaq.html which shows the last 5 questions as multiple choice. Yet on the paper specimen the last 5 are written?
August 9, 2014 at 5:29 pm #188992Arsal, I’ve already asked you earlier today not to post a question multiple times!
In addition, I’ve already answered this
Further, the answer is there for you to see – all you needed to do was check the ACCA’s website
But here it is again for you:
“F4 English and Global will also be available as computer based exams from November 19, 2014. The new F4 English and Global CBE specimens can be accessed via the link shown to the right hand side of this page.”
August 13, 2014 at 10:39 pm #189964hello MikeLittle ,

August 14, 2014 at 6:00 am #189985Hello Mike, I need your advice. The school where I study as international student makes it compulsory for us to register 3 papers each diet. Many students have been failing so much. I’m due to be registered automatically for f4, f5, & f6 but I’m wondering if writing those papers in such sequence will give me enough time to revise in between exams. Please can u suggest how best to combine those papers.
August 14, 2014 at 6:09 am #189988Hi – its always been my belief that the idea of having a day between exams for revision is a non-concept. The amount you will learn in that day is so marginal and in fact there’s a reasonable chance that you will confuse yourself.
Substantially all the work necessary for these exams should have been completed by the start of exam week – at the very latest
I bet that’s not what you wanted to hear!
Schedule your time available for studying and plan it out over three papers. You know that you are always welcome to contact us through Ask the Tutor and we’ll get back to you normally within 48 hours
August 14, 2014 at 6:14 am #189991Thanks a lot Mike. That was pretty fast. I will start reading for f4 now and see how much I can learn before the system begins. Do u think f4 cube will be better than paper based?
August 14, 2014 at 7:25 am #190009In one way, yes – no writing which is a big bonus for students for whom English is not the first language.
In another way, no – the new format means that questions can be asked from throughout the syllabus whereas before you could have been lucky, learned 6 or 7 topics and they could all have come up in the exam
I went through the specimen paper just 2 days ago and found it testing – a right / wrong answer is the only possibility whereas with the traditional paper based F4 it was always possible to pick up 2 or 3 marks on a question even though you realy knew nothing about it!
It will be interesting to get student feedback after November 19
August 14, 2014 at 7:36 am #190014so its 100% confirm its not CBE until dec 2014 ?? F4

August 14, 2014 at 10:23 pm #190171Hello Mike, could you please advise whether F4 CBE can be taken on avarious dates or will it be staying as 6 monthly?
August 15, 2014 at 8:53 am #190306CBE can be taken whenever you like and as often as required (subject to availability at your local test centre obviously).
Sorry to answer for you Mike but you must get frustrated when the answers to most of these questions are already freely available on the ACCA website or through the learning providers!!!

Do feel free to answer the obvious or less obvious questions, this is a community forum. not ask the tutor 🙂 Tutors should not be really here.. but sometimes they can’t control themselves 🙂
