Hi,
I did MBA finance with background of B.com from Pakistan. I want to know is it preferable that I apply for exemptions??? I am confused as I am not in touch with my books for 5 years and wonder that whether should I apply for it or not? What is the knowledge and cost efficient way? If yes then what is the process of applying?
Thanks.
July 12, 2011 at 5:05 am #85901well, it depends on whether you want to get qualified quickly or to build a more solid knowledge.
I choose second, and i refused from my exemptions. I got them automatically, but as i knew that I don’t really have knowledge equaivalent to those papers, I messaged ACCA explaining why i would like to refuse from them. However, so far i haven’t met anyone else who did the same. Usually everyone benefits from exemptions and is trying to get as many exemptions as possible.
Reason , well some people really already posess all that knowledge and some people are in a very big hurry to finish ACCA.As for me, there was not any single day that i regret about my choice.
Knowledge module was interesting and enjoyable. Plus it’s more easier for me to study skills level papers now.I also have backgroud in finance , but your story is difinately different. So try to look at F1-F3 syllabus at accaglobal and decide whether you are familar with all those bits. Try to see pilot papers to check your knowledge.
And if you feel that it’s something that you want to study and you are not in hurry with ACCA, then go for it.good luck

July 12, 2011 at 7:49 am #85903hi,
Thanks. I found you very helpful. Another thing i want to ask is about book. I Hong Kong i found book very expensive. Can i use the second hand? would it be fine for F1-F3.July 12, 2011 at 8:49 am #85904you are always welcome 🙂
Generally to pass knowledge level you can always use old books. these exams are not really based on legislation , like law or tax exams.
So contents of books almost didn’t change from year to year. But this year there is a big problem with it.
Format of knowledge level exams changed significantly and this change will be first introduced in Dec 2011. Change apply to both CBE and PBE exams. However i guess before this date you can still pass CBE of old format. But i’m not sure about this one, so it’s worth to check.
You can read briefly about this change here : https://www2.accaglobal.com/pubs/students/publications/student_accountant/archive/sa_june10_ACCAQual2011v3.pdf
Not only the format of exam was changed. Some new types of questions are introduced. But also some new topics were added to F2 and F3 i guess.
So if you use old books, you might pass, but u will struggle with those new things that you are not prepared for.
Books are very expensive, but you can try to compare with prices of e-materials of official publishers. I recommend u to rely mostly on BPP and Kaplan.
Though keep benefiting from additional materials like OT as well. Not sure if it’s possible to buy kaplan only e-books. You can check and Kaplan Financial website. As for BPP learning media ., they always have e-books, but the problem with BPP books is that they reduced printing allowance to 15% 🙁 so u can only read book on the screen …which is so uncomfortable …
The material that i always recommend for knowledge module is BPP I-pass. If u can get it, benefit from it as much as you can.
Again , old one can be used, but updated one could be perfect.if u can’t get updated books at all, then at least practice with pilot papers, , see adiditons to syllabus and study those topics from skills level technical articles.
With all that you might still prepare quite well.July 13, 2011 at 5:25 am #85905Thanks again…… Can you explain OT, what is it and how to get it? The other thing, if i am able to get only BPP i-pass, would that be enough or it would be an additonal material along with text and revision kit? ACCA provided slybus could be enough for preparing for exam?
July 13, 2011 at 5:35 am #85906OT= OpenTuition

July 13, 2011 at 7:10 am #85909@cuteleo110,
thank you.@aminah2010,
see reply of cuteleo, hope u will like OT materials and they will help you to prepare for exam.Bpp’s I pass alone is not enough to pass exam. It’s perfect for revision, but not for studies, as u can’t attempt questions before you study relevant topics.
And I-pass doesn’t containt study text, it contains tests only. This i-pass is the programm containg lots of F3 tests. It is good for daily practice. You can set timer. You can deside whether you want to try 50 or 10 or any amount of questions. You can choose tests from which area you want to attempt , etc… it’s quite flexible.
And as it’s a programme for sure it’s more convenient if you are going to attempt CBE (computer based exam). If you are planning to sit PBE (paper based exam), then you should better concentrate on practising questions from revision kits.See BPP’s catalogue 2011 for more information about I-pass and other products :

pay attention to page 8I didn’t understand your last question. Sorry, what did you mean about ACCA’s syllabus?
Syllabus is the layout of topics that are goint to be examined. It is set out by ACCA’s examiners of relevant papers, so it’s a must to use for each exam.
Nothing outside syllabus can be examined.July 13, 2011 at 8:26 am #85910i think she means Study Guide from syllabus..
