    Dear Tutor,
I have a question regarding F8 (Int) exam technique.
I failed twice in F8. Last time, on June 2010 exams I wrote nearly 80 marks and gained just 47.
I’ve been working in Ernst&Young Georgia for 3 three years.
I really have experience in this field; I knew June exam topics well, as it is my everyday work on audit engagements.
I have read a book and done several questions from exam kit.
I have done all past exam questions also.
I wonder what’s my problem; Does F8 requires special English writing skills or something else?
    Could you advise me?
    Thank You in advance

First thing: answer all the questions. If you only attempted 80 marks worth, then to get 50% overall, you have to earn 50/80 = 63.5% in what you tried. That can be difficult in auditing.

No special techniques are needed, but in general:

1 Make sure you direct your answer to the details in any scenario given. Most of the exam is about application.

2 Write in as much detail as you can. Because auditing is your job, it is easy to leave out describing the basic stuff because you know that so well. But to get marks, you must try to describe everything in detail. Try pretending you are explaining what to do to a 14 year old who has no auditing experience. Every step then has to be spelled out.

3 Try to avoid using the word ‘check’. This is an all-singing, all-dancing word that allows you to omit detail. So instead of saying ‘Check invoices are cancelled after payment’ say ‘Inspect invoices to ensure they are cancelled after payment’. Instead of saying ‘Check the bank reconciliation’ say ‘Reperform the bank reconciliation to ensure that it was carried out correctly’.

OpenTuition are offering to mark June 09 F8 scripts free of charge if submitted on Word.
