October 29, 2012 at 11:54 am #106091I have attempted to study, but it realy has been a horrible year. I am also writing 3papers and stressing big time as i am not even remotely close prepared. Trying to find tips on how to just getting started. Time is slipping extremely fast. Hope you get the energy and motivation to start soon
October 30, 2012 at 9:37 am #106092I am kind of in the same boat as you. I am progressing ok with 1 of my papers but I have not even started revising F5 (all be it a resit).
I think the best thing to do is PLAN! Sit down with all the days written down and think what do I have planned for November, social events, long days at work etc. Then set yourself a challenge for each week, e.g. To complete 2 modules of each exam paper by the end of the week (AND PRACTICE QUESTIONS AT THE SAME TIME!!)
What is crutial is that you plan some down time, for example keep clear Monday and Friday nights to chill out or meet up with friends, there is nothing worse then trying to study when you are tired!
This is my plan:
Monday- Rest
Tuesday- Maybe read a chapter or two
Wednesday- 1/2 day study afternoon, watch online lectures and complete some questions
Thursday- Read through a chapter or two
Friday- Rest
Saturday- Full day watch online lectures, start answering some questions from past papers
Sunday- Another full day with a reward of some sort for your hard weeks work(my favourite is a takaway with friends)October 30, 2012 at 1:19 pm #106093I hope this plan works for you Tony. My problem is i am working full time and only get home like 6pm. Then I need to tend to my kiddies and husband. I only start relaxing at 8pm in the evening and by then are totally wasted. Weekends are family time, but i think for this month i will have to make a plan over weekends to just get through at least 2 papers.
I defnitely will plan my studies totally different next yr as this was my 1st yr with ACCA and didn’t have a clue what to expect.October 30, 2012 at 2:04 pm #106094Hi Everyone,
I am in a similar situation like you, Marlise. Although I am not working, I am a full time mum of 21 & 5 months old babies so practically I end the day like you: around 8ish when they are in bed and completely exhausted!.
I am attending just 2 papers (F4 & F5) and since few months ago I’ve got a very nice and practical plan, however my problem is to find time to stick to it!!
So at today’s date I am still working through the chapters instead of revising as I should by this time.
Now my aim is to get to the end of the textbooks/notes and trying to practice past papers as many as I can, and we’ll see what happens.January 14, 2013 at 7:54 am #113254Reading chapters is an illusion! You think you are preapring because you read a lot, but in fact you are wasting your time. The only strategy to pass the exam is to complete practice questions every day!

February 9, 2013 at 4:09 pm #116841Generally I would agree – practice literally forges paths in your brain so every question becomes easier than the last one – its always been the best way for humans to learn, as the brains’ learned responses tend to last and to be brought freshly to mind by a question thats recognised as similar.
But don’t write off reading and short-term memory. I took AAT Level 3 (Intermediate) at a bad time in my life and for one exam, nothing was sinking in and I knew I couldnt pass it based on revision. Instead I turned up 3 hours early at the test centre and read the textbook from cover to cover, finishing moments before the exam doors opened, walked in, and sat the exam
I’d forgotten most of it by the time I got home – but I’d passed.
