hi john,
i have posted a new thread titled, caps handwriting, but submitted it to the F5 general post not the ask a tutor one, apologies for that, could you have a look at that for me please.
also, i am going through the lectures, and when i get round to practicing exam qns, for sec a would you recommend going through them in number order, or attacking the true/false, name the order, written type qns before the numerical ones.
and for sec b, how far back in exam years should i go for practicing the type of qns, to 2010 or further back?
thank for your help.
August 9, 2015 at 9:32 am #266321When you are practicing questions, then the order in which you attempt them does not matter. In the real exam, there isn’t really a best order – I would attempt the MCQ’s first and then Section B, but it is really personal preference. Most important is to allocate your time.
To see my suggestions about the approach in the real exam you should watch the lectures where I go through the specimen paper and the December 2014 real exam (and soon I will upload the June 2015 exam). You can find them from the link ‘revision kit live’ on the main F5 page. They are useful because I talk through the approach as well as working through the solutions. The more questions you practice the better, but you really should get a Revision Kit from one of the approved publishers. They contain all relevant past exam questions and lots more exam standard questions. It also matters because the format changed last year and now includes section A with MCQ’s – the Revision Kits have lots of MCQ’s whereas old real exams did not used to have any.
August 9, 2015 at 12:49 pm #266355Hi,
Please advise me a best approach to clear F5. I attempted twice but scored only 40. I m doing self study and so far never looked into online courses and lectures which now i realize i should have looked in long ago. Since i m a working women i struggle a lot to find time for studies.
So far i just followed the text only and little of revision kit. I come to know of the Prof. Moffat lectures are very useful. Please send me a link. Also would like to know a small bit of info – for the objective type questions – shall we just write the answer number or do we really need to describe on how we reached to that answer ?? How to answer that .
Thanks in advance
August 9, 2015 at 3:43 pm #266394You can find the free lectures linked from the main F5 page (choose ACCA on the top bar, and then choose F5).
You should work through the lectures (with the free lecture notes in front of you). That should not take too long since you have already studied from a study text, so it should be mainly revision.
Most important of all is practicing questions. Since you write that you have done a ‘little of the revision kit’, I think this could be the biggest problem. Practice is vital – to get used to the style of the questions, the depth of knowledge needed, and learning from the answer to the written parts of questions (calculations will only be 50% of the exam).
Also, make sure that you have a recent edition of the revision kit – one that has lots of MCQ’s in.
Also, linked from the main F5 page you will find ‘revision kit live’ where I go through both the specimen exam and the December 2014 real exam (and the June 2015 exam will be added soon). These should help you with the approach to the exam.
For Section A, only your choice of answer (A, B, C or D) is marked – it is marked by computer and the computer does not look at your workings at all.
Any problems, ask in this forum 🙂
