Hi all,
Please help! I can’t believe I found all other parts of the module easy enough and I’m getting stuck here. I think I might be either misreading something or not seeing something right in front of my face.
You are given a spreadsheet with the P/L from the previous period (before MEXIT) and current year (after MEXIT). Some disruption was expected and your were previously asked about how to reduce damage to the company as a consequence of MEXIT.
This assessment has 6 questions in which you have to assess the impact on profit of each individual strategic option given in the scenario.
Your answer should be a number, ie: 100 (for 100,000), as they state the $’000 before the space for answer. That’s correct, isn’t it?
Also, I take that since what they are asking for is the impact on profit, the answer should be the new profit figure obtained after using that particular strategy, isn’t it? they don’t look for the difference between the profit per P/L after MEXIT and the one using the specific strategy?
I also take that the base figures you use are the ones for the P/L from the after MEXIT accounts. You only need the ones for the year before for certain calculations, am I right?

Yes – if prompt is $’000 you give answer to nearest 000 – so 100 in your example.
I don’t currently have access to this unit but I would say “impact” should be difference because it is asking for the effect.
Regarding the last Q – as I say I don’t have access to the unit but I have found a reference: “Please treat each strategic option as totally independent of any other option and USE THE FOLLOWING profit or loss statement as the basis for your analysis.”

As a result of MEXIT, Telford Engineering had lost 30% of its pre-MEXIT export sales to CETA customers, due to increased trade and tariff barriers with CETA. (See P/L account before MEXIT in the spreadsheet). A new opportunity has now been negotiated to sell the original 30% post-MEXIT loss in CETA exports to a range of customers in alternative export markets on another continent. These can be sold at the same price, bringing the factory back to full capacity.
