hello my brother is working in a private Ltd company as marketing manager so should i choose topic 18 it will be easy to collect information and access to relevant data
OR there would be ethical or confedentiality issues ???
should i take topic 18 as my brother can help ????September 8, 2014 at 9:28 am #194287@zee90. In principle there is nothing wrong with choosing a company that you have a close connection with. As far as the confidentiality issue goes that is something that your brother would need to sort out as he is the person who is employed by the company and therefore has a contract of employment with them and agreed to abide by any confidentiality rules. However provided you are not proposing to disclose any secret information (proposed campaigns, marketing budgets, or ‘intelligence’ acquired about competitors for example) and most of the material you are hoping to use is already in the public domain I would have thought there wouldn’t be a problem that they would object to. Your RAP will only normally be accessed to be marked however you now have to agree that it will be retained on the electronic data base Turnitin so it will be available to OBU staff in theory (although they too will have signed confidentiality agreements about not disclosing the content of students’ work)
One problem you may have is providing the ‘original’ analysis element input – this is supposed to be your work not your brother’s afterall! By all means you may cite your brother in the report (look up how to reference a personal interview) and mention the personal contact in your info gathering section. The only other slight problem may be in providing the ‘independent’ evidence from external sources to back up your analysis. So this is something to think about- you will need to show that you have used a variety sources not just relied on your brother! However that being said provided you put your own ‘stamp’ on it and follow the RAP Guidelines (markers will probably be able to tell if it has been written by a student or a professional in the business) then you probably have the makings of a good and successful report. 😀
September 20, 2014 at 1:09 pm #195655can i check my thesis on trunitin for plagiarism ???as obu mention in info pack appendice8 that they check through trunitin ??????
September 20, 2014 at 5:15 pm #195666I believe there are some organisations that offer a Turnitin checking service. Please see our forum Turnitin works? where some of the pros and cons of using Turnitin are discussed.
March 23, 2015 at 7:05 pm #238520I passed my project few years ago. My question is if someone asks me to show him my project would it be ok? The person who has asked me to show him my project wants to see the sample in order to understand how to get work done.
March 24, 2015 at 9:17 am #238554@emmu – I can only issue general advice. Sharing of work is forbidden under the rules and students will be penalised if caught. Letting someone see your work to get a rough idea of the layout and way to tackle the RAP is fine IF that is all they are going to do. It comes down to (a) the trust you have in the person (b) their personal integrity and (c) the risk you want to take. If you are happy about (a) and (b) then the risks are minimal. However anyone who pressurises you into handing over your work obviously cannot be trusted and lacks integrity.
April 29, 2015 at 11:05 am #243222Please I will like to know if it is ethical/unethical for one who is trying to make ends meet to:
– To gather necessary information regarding the RAP on behalf of a third party for a fee.
– To undertake the RAP on behalf of a third party for a fee.
April 29, 2015 at 11:26 am #243228@gershal – How can you even think this could be ‘ethical’?
Both of these are totally unethical as a student by submitting work is stating that it is all their own work. If some else has done any of the work for them then such a statement is a total lie.
Buying a RAP and submitting it is an act of Fraud and is actually a criminal offence in the UK. Such behaviour deserves to be referred to the University’s Misconduct Committee.
Those who both buy and sell RAPs should be banned from ACCA membership as they clearly do not understand ethical standards of behaviour and would be bringing the profession into disrepute
April 29, 2015 at 11:32 am #243229@trephena I totally agree with you on this issue, but there should be a way by which such actions are checkmate. It will truly go a long way in maintaining professionalism.
April 29, 2015 at 12:10 pm #243232The reason I asked is due to the fact that it is not always the smart ones that gets the job and not all ACCA members merit the qualification. There should be something that can be done to improve the profession’s standard.
April 30, 2015 at 12:15 am #243310@gershal – Two wrongs do not make a ‘right’ so just because someone has the opportunity does not mean they should avail themself of it and hopefully even if someone has engaged in cheating ultimately they will get their downfall one day. I agree that there are people out there (and they obviously know who they are) who have cheated. Turnitin has helped identify many students who copy and universities are aware of many ‘tricks’ used by the unscrupulous to get qualifications they have not earned but you will always get some who can’t be bothered to work hard but want a degree and where there is demand there will usually be someone who will ‘supply’ for a price.
“There should be something that can be done to improve the profession’s standard” – well in the first instance anyone who knows of unethical practices or behaviour should report it to ACCA if it concerns exams and exam centres and OBU if it involves the RAP and/or mentors.
Corruption and fraud should never be tolerated as it penalises those who play fair and obey the rules and usually corruption if it goes unchecked leads to just more corruption as it becomes the cultural ‘norm’.
If anyone needs further advice on this matter then for this topic ONLY I will accept private messages. (For other queries you MUST use the Forums as I do not respond to emails)
