I Study with LSBF and so far I’m very happy with them.
Today I received an e-mail from BPP congratulating me on passing my recent exams.
Firstly, I’m a little concerned that BPP have got my e-mail. However, there are a number of places (including this site) that could have sent them my e-mail address, so not too concerned.
Where I am concerned is that they know that I passed exams. They could only have gotten that information from ACCA (or LSBF – which I very much doubt). Does this mean that ACCA are selling our personal information to their Platinum learning Partner?
February 19, 2014 at 9:30 am #159381OpenTuition does not give away or sell email addresses of its members.
We do not even allow sending newsletters on behalf of companies willing to advertise.. we only place standard advertising banners in newsletters sometimes. If I remember correctly. ACCA does send emails on behalf of tuition providers ….
February 19, 2014 at 12:46 pm #159413ACCA does this with the permission of student I think there is a section in MyACCA this question is asked and through various feed back excercises , if we click yes to these, then we had it.
I doubt wihtout permission ACCA will do this. if they do, then this is an ethical issue for ACCA.
February 19, 2014 at 1:35 pm #159419Firstly, I presumed that was not the case with Open Tuition, but to be honest for the amount of free help you provide I would be happy for you to sell my e-mail address. The e-mail address is one that I use when I expect spam anyway, so it is no big deal.
My concern is that ACCA are passing on more than an e-mail address. They have passed on personal information. How much else are they selling – my credit card details?
Sathjyot I have checked my account at MyACCA and as expected I had ticked the box saying do not pass on my details to third parties. So if it is ACCA then I will be very upset.
I’ve asked BPP to confirm to me where they got my details from. My understanding of data protection is they have to provide me with that information.

February 28, 2014 at 4:09 pm #161114I got this email too but to be honest I never read it I just binned it as junk! lol
I wish I’d read it now as Im curious as to how they knew I’d passed.
The only thing I can say is I am using BPP for the first time for the June 2014 exams, I purchased the textbooks online but I dont recall giving them my ACCA number??March 12, 2014 at 3:11 pm #162147Just a quick update.
After waiting weeks for BPP to reply to my e-mails, I called them. They said they could not tell me for certain who provided my details to them, but it could well be ACCA as they do receive a lot of student data from them.
Called the ACCA to complain. They told me that after checking they had never sent out my details to anyone. After explaining the situation, they said they were starting an internal investigation in case a “rouge” employee is selling the details illegally.
They said they would let me know the outcome. Will update if I hear anything.
