I want to know why lodgements are added to the balance. Aren’t they supposed to be an expense to the company and therefore lead to a fall in the bank balance?

You have asked this question somewhere else as well, and it has been answered somewhere else!!!!
Lodgements is what we call it when we receive money and pay it into the bank. So the bank balance will increase. (It means the same as deposits)
