Hey Ken
I just wanted to ask if its worth doing CIMA after doing ACCA
And would the advice be any different if someone has not done P5?
Like if someone has done P5 then they can do 5 papers, 3 of which are on demand and and get an advanced diploma in management accounting. So like is it worth doing CIMA after ACCA or do employers not care which one of the 2 you have?
August 15, 2017 at 5:00 pm #401969Imthink doing CIMA after ACCA is a waste of time and effort (as would be doing ACCA after CIMA.
Though the qualifications differ in emphasis, both indicate a good level of accounting knowledge. What employers care more about is work experience as being able to pass the exams does not guarantee you will be a good employee and be able to put your knowledge into practice.
Getting the first job is often the difficult step because employers want experience – but you can’t get experience witbout a job!
August 16, 2017 at 6:30 am #401997Oh I see. So its not really crucial for me to do P5 or CIMA in order to become the management accountant of a company?
Also, just to tell you. I’ve landed a job at Crowe Horwath in my country (Tanzania) and it was really easy. I’m guessing getting a job in England or stuff would probably not be as easy.

Just still wanted you to confirm what I was asking.

August 16, 2017 at 8:10 am #402005No, not in my opinion. Most of the basic techniques have been met in F5.
June 8, 2018 at 3:01 pm #457815Hi there,
Just following on from this – I’m currently employed in a relevant role as a Financial Analyst and about halfway through ACCA (just sat F6 & F7 this week). I plan to do CIMA straight after completing the exams for ACCA due to the exemptions and extra topics. My main reasoning being that as an Analyst, my work is more operational based and that the skills in CIMA are more associated with business operation over typical business accounting.
To your point of employers caring about experience, that isn’t my issue, my main wish is to develop my personal skill and knowledge level to beyond sufficient to greater and help diversify and improve what i can bring to my position. Will the further techniques that are learnt in the additional CIMA modules be worth it or would there me more gained through carrying on through work alone.
Thanks
June 8, 2018 at 5:54 pm #457911I would go for work.
There is lots of overlap between the syllabuses and it looks eccentric to have both qualifications. Employers might fear you want to be a perpetual student, more interested in the academic side than the practical side.
