    Hello Sir,

I happened to met you through this chat in the paper APM forum. Glad to know you’re handling Audit and Assurance as well.

The reason I started this topic is because most of my friends are telling me that they’re struggling to get marks in this paper specially when it comes to the point that the examiner is looking for key technical words in a professional English language.

Should I need to memorize those technical words sir?

And, word counts matters when it comes to constructive responsive questions sir (Section B)

    Thanks

    Welcome to my forum!

At the applied skills level, candidates are not penalised for poor English/grammar/spelling – as long as the points they are making can be understood. If after re-reading a sentence it is not clear to a marker what was the point the candidate was trying to make, the marker cannot credit it as though it made sense, if it does not (!) (At the strategic professional level, candidates need a reasonable standard of English/grammar/spelling or they will forfeit professional skills marks.)

It shouldn’t be a case of “memorising” technical words – there is a “language” of auditing which you will find throughout our notes, lecture, etc and which will be repeated throughout published Qs & As in the CBE practice platform and a revision kit. You have to know these terms to understand what is asked of you – and you have to respond “in kind”.

Word count does not matter and published answers are meant to be longer/more comprehensive than any candidate could write in an exam – because they are a revision aid.

A “script” of answer points that are short and succinct will get more credit (as long as they are relevant to the Q set) than an “essay” – the marker does NOT want to have to read essays!
