how does scratchpad work and wouldnt it slow us down especially for fr where we got a lot to work out is there any other alternative ?

The alternative is that you make all workings/notes in the space provided for the answer and “overtype” notes for written answer answer points as you develop them into full answer points – or otherwise delete any jottings when they are no longer of any use to you.
