Do we need to attempt all questions to pass??

My friends F6 teacher said that if you completely leave one full question then you will fail regardless of the total marks you would be getting, Your percentage would be 49% fail. Is there any truth to this? I initially thought not but I think it could be true after reading this in the kaplan exam kit,

"Remember that in the real examination, all you have to do is:
attempt all questions required by the exam
only spend the allotted time on each question, and
get them at least 50% right!"

So really it's not just about getting 50%?? And if it is true that all questions should be attempted, can we still afford to completely mess up one question provided the rest would make up for it?

It is not that you fail due to not answering all questions. You should understand it in this way. It is nearly impossible for you to get a passing mark by leaving any questions not attempted.

For example, it there are 4 questions in the paper, each with equal marks. If you leave one blank, you have to get 17/25 marks in each question in order to pass. It means that you must be able to answer the three questions precisely and extensively as the ACCA's solution,which are written by expert examiners.
It's safer to diversify, no matter in investment and in examination.

But if that is not the case then why should one move on to the next question if they are running out of time like the kaplan kit suggests? You'll lose marks both ways cuz you will have to ultimately come back to that question or lose marks.

I am not planning to leave anything in the course but this is my precise problem, if I am unable to do my f6 paper on time then does it really matter if I leave an entire question of 10 marks or leave a part of 10 marks?

You will not 'automatically' fail by skipping an entire question as sosologos has said.

You are suggested to move on because the easy marks in each question are the fastest to attain, and the last few marks in each question take the longest. That's all.
