I mean, last two times I wrote P7, the first one was worse than the second attempt, but still scored better in first attempt. I followed the examiner’s approach in answering the audit related questions and even checked answers of the september 2016 exam on acca website, my answers where not off the model answers, but still got fewer marks.
Has anyone experienced something like this before?
October 19, 2016 at 3:10 pm #345000I will answer the last question first. I have experienced this. I got 46 in March and have got 36 in the last 2 sittings. My knowledge has improved greatly over the period but if you do not get a good exam paper you will struggle.
The last 2 sitting have been very tough for me because they did not examine the areas of the syllabus I was prepared for or they asked the question differently than I expected.
I personally do not like Audit Risk- I feel it is to open to interpretation and thus hard to identify and justify answers in the time available. It came up 2 sittings in a row. The new sessions are evolving into a different pattern.
This Xmas should be back to Biz Risks and Romms and is normally also a higher pass rate. The work you put in to learning something will not matter if that subject does not come up. Did this happen to you.
The questions you ask yourself will determine your outcome and or reaction.
Ask what did I do that worked this session?
What did I do that didnt?
Did I cover all the necessary areas (including the ones you hate)?
Can I add value anywhere else.- Reading ISA/IAS’s etc.
Am I covering all my bases? ie. too much book time, not enough exam papers or are you struggling with a fundamental principle behind a topic.
As with everything in life, you need to re assess and re evaluate and grow from all your failures instead of over analysising or dwelling on them.

If you score between 30-40: means you lack both knowledge and Exam technique.
If you score between 45-50: You have knowledge, but you lack Exam technique. The application of knowledge according to scenario is important.
Answers need to be explained enough (thats what i’m struggling with btw).
Read, and Re-reading is important, i just figured it out, this helps you remember and connect lots of concepts and explanations.
Also, spending more time on single mark than necessary is also the reason of continuous failures.October 23, 2016 at 12:11 pm #345677Hi eoglasain, I don’t know if you are referring to the International version of the P7 paper, but if you are, both the previous sittings (June 2016 & Sep 2016) have been about Business Risks in Q1, so I am expecting an element of Audit Risk in December, maybe relating to Risk of Material Misstatement.
October 23, 2016 at 12:12 pm #345678Sorry what is Romms?
October 28, 2016 at 3:09 pm #346453“Sorry what is Romms?” You ask one minute after you posted this:
“… maybe relating to Risk of Material Misstatement”
