Hi everyone,
I have just decided to start the ACCA studying via distance learning.
My question is do I really need to sign up with a provider like Kaplan or BPP, or could I just purchase the study materials second hand and self-study?
Kaplan charge £170-£250 per paper and I can’t see what extra I would get by going directly through them.
What experiences have other people had.
Many thanks

ssales – what resourses did you find the best for self study?

Hi, first of all, you will find a lot of free resources on this website that should help you self study your way through ACCA.
Secondly, as far as the whole distance learning issue goes, I think that differs from one student to another. If you feel that you can study on your own, then go for it. Its doable. Here is an excellent post, which should answer most of your queries regarding self study:

As far as the famous “Kaplan vs BPP” debate goes, again, matter of personal preference. A lot of students say that Kaplan is good is good for “papers with numbers” whereas BPP for theoretical papers. I would advise you to have a look at both, see which one appeals to you the most. I used Kaplan for all the papers, and made it through, despite the aforementioned popular notion.
Hope this helps!
P.S. a few other publishers have surfaced e.g. Emile Woolf, GTG. Might want to check them out if Kaplan & BPP don’t work for you. Good luck!
