Hi All.
Apologies for any mistakes in advance as I’m new to the group.
I am considering studying/taking exam for tax f6 in March 2019 solely from the study text, revision/exam kit and online sources so no attending classrooms or online webinars etc (solely because I am looking to self funding it my self as work will not pay for it). I know it’s going to be tough and rough ride but i wanted to know if anyone has ever done it this way and what are the hurdles and what things to look out for? Any help and advice with strategic twist towards success would be much appriciated.
Many Thanks
December 20, 2018 at 7:54 am #492351Look at the “Study support guide” available from this link:
https://www.accaglobal.com/uk/en/student/exam-support-resources/fundamentals-exams-study-resources/f6.html
The first thing you have to decide is do you have enough time to prepare for March. If not, you should be aware that if you were not successful in March, you would be resitting in June in need of new edition revision kit as the Finance Act 2018 will be examinable in June, whereas the Finance Act 2017 is examinable in March. As long as you have the time to commit to a chosen exam, OpenTuition has the resources to support you – and we have many successful students who have prepared through self-study.
December 20, 2018 at 9:20 am #492362I have self studied for every paper without attending online or face to face courses. Currently waiting on my result for my final paper having passed every other paper first time this way so it can be done.
My employer paid for my studies and I did have access to the online materials or to speak to a tutor through Kaplan, but I hardly used the online resources and never spoke to a tutor. My key resources were the study text and the revision kit, plus the free resources available through ACCA (technical articles, past papers, webinars).
The key to success with self study is consistent dedication and question practice. It’s possible for you to pass the exam in March but you should start studying very soon if you haven’t already. You should aim to have worked through the entire study text by the end of January leaving you just over a month to practice questions. You should then aim to practice every single question in your kit before the exam, as well as tackling some past papers under timed conditions.
With the tax exam there is a lot of information to take in – probably the most out of any paper at that level. There are rare a lot of rules and exceptions to the rule to learn. However, with dedication and hard work you can do it.
December 20, 2018 at 10:48 am #492370Many thanks for the advice guys I think after speaking to few people my self who are studying CIMA as well as ACCA also mentioned that it isn’t going to be easy but concluded in the same way as you did “dedication & consistancsy” which something I was expecting. Can anyone recommend any other sources of information apart from open tuition and ACCA them selves or shall I stick with these to prevent confusion specially closer to the exam to avoid negative impact?
Many Thanks
December 20, 2018 at 12:31 pm #492379The resources you need are:
– OpenTuition lectures & notes OR Kaplan/BPP study text
– Kaplan/BPP revision kit
– ACCA past papers
– ACCA technical articles
– OpenTuition forums – support from tutors & other students
That’s all you need to pass well.
