Hi,
I am looking to start ACCA via distance learning. Will I need the full premier package which has all videos and revision kit or are the main course notes and revision notes enough? Difference in cost is from 100ish pound. Total for everything is 300. Is it worth it?
Thanks
December 1, 2016 at 7:09 pm #352952This is one for the general forum but we at opentuition believe that (generally) a study text is not worth it
There is substantially all you need here on this site and you have (almost) instant response to your questions – we aim for response within 48 hours but are substantially quicker than that in practice
We have videos, course notes, practice questions, flash cards, revision lectures – what more could you want
What you most certainly WILL need is a revision kit / exam kit from one of the reputable publishers – don’t even think about saving money there.
We don’t have an arrangement with Kaplan but we do have an arrangement with BPP whereby you can acquire your study material with a 20% discount on advertised price – if you’re interested go to the red(dish) box on the right hand side of the screen and follow the instructions
And keep in touch – we’re here to help
December 1, 2016 at 7:29 pm #352965Can you give me the order of studying for my F4 exam which I intend to sit in Feb. And what from that is accessible via OT. The bpp exam kit book is only £14.40 with discount (very cheap!).
December 2, 2016 at 8:20 am #353078So get yourself a BPP revision kit
You’re from the UK – are you doing the English law version?
There is a (95%) complete set of video lectures for the English variant (only around 50% – 60% for the global variant)
So download the free course notes and start watching the lectures
Every so often open your revision kit and spend an hour trying mcqs from there – you will probably get 90% of them wrong, but not to worry
Don’t write in the revision kit itself – write your answers on a separate piece of paper so that next time you try that question you won’t be influenced by any previous effort
Watch the lectures 2 or 3 times
Read the course notes 2 or 3 times every week (2 hours from start to finish – just read, don’t try to memorise)
As time passes, open your revision kit more and more frequently – maybe even every day – and you should find that second time through you’re only getting 80% wrong, then 70% wrong, then 50%, 30%, 10% … where do you want to go with this?
And post any queries that you may have on this forum page and I shall get back to you
Sound like a plan?
December 2, 2016 at 11:27 am #353141Sounds good. Are the videos ok to use for exam sitting in Feb? And also the study notes, will they be ok to use for Feb 17? Revision notes mention ‘December 2011 Revision’ on them, will they be ok to use?
Thanks for your help, appreciate it.
December 2, 2016 at 11:58 am #353150The world of F4 law changes only very slowly
The notes and lectures are still substantially good – there’s a small amendment that I need to write in the area of liquidations (and I’m about to do that this weekend), but that’s all
December 2, 2016 at 12:12 pm #353154So it should be good to just rely upon OT material with a BPP revision book to pass the exam? I’d be looking at the videos alongside the notes. Then doing the mcq’s. Sound good enoigh? How long should I be ready for the exam in?
December 2, 2016 at 12:25 pm #353160That should be ok
How long?
I don’t know your personal circumstances
– what other demands there are on your time
– your receptiveness to learning new stuff
– how much time you want to devote to the kids / spouse / parents / grandparents
– whether football / cricket / hockey play a major role in your life– whether you are employed or unemployed
So many imponderables – impossible to answer
December 2, 2016 at 2:02 pm #353193So just to conclude before I print the Study Notes off and start watching the videos; all this will cover the syllabus and any updates which may have been made for me to sit the exam in Feb/Mar 17? I will cover the above and get the BPP Exam/Revision kit book too. Is that OK? Main thing for me is to make sure everything from the syllabus is covered and the latest updates are included in OT resources.
Thanks 🙂
December 2, 2016 at 2:28 pm #353207You never answered this question
“You’re from the UK – are you doing the English law version?”
December 2, 2016 at 2:29 pm #353209Sorry, I am assuming so.
December 2, 2016 at 2:38 pm #353216I am intending on doing the ENG, please advise otherwise
December 2, 2016 at 2:50 pm #353222No, I think English is more interesting than Global – but that’s a personal opinion
But the video lectures on this site cover substantially the whole of the English syllabus whereas only 50% – 60% of the Global syllabus is covered by video lectures
December 2, 2016 at 3:27 pm #353227That’s great. So I’ll print off the notes and start with the videos. I’ll keep pestering you when I get stuck 🙂
Many Thanks for your help again.
December 2, 2016 at 3:34 pm #353229You’re welcome
December 4, 2016 at 7:26 am #353586Hi, There are no videos for F4 ENG chapter 1 or 2?
December 4, 2016 at 8:27 am #353618Correct – they should be relatively easy for self study
Where there is a chapter with no corresponding video lecture, you should find that the contents are relatively straight forward and enough practice on mcqs on those areas should be ample to see you through
