Hi, I came to this forum after a very disappointed result of P1 and P3 again. My journey of ACCA started in September 2009 when I was 21 after getting exemption of F1, F2 and F3. By Dec 2010 I passed all my fundamental level exams F4-F9 with 1st attempt. Then I took P1 and P2 for the June 2011 and passed P2 with 60% but failed P1 in 40s. After that I took P1 and P3 and failed both in 40s. Same again in the next 2 attempts failing P1 and P2 on both attempts. That means I failed P1 4 times and P3 3 times. I got demoted and left ACCA and started MBA. I got my MBA in finance in Sep 2014. Then I got married in 2015 and didn’t get much time to complete ACCA. Then I got a call from ACCA in June 2017 that I have only got 2 years left to complete ACCA then I thought lets get back and complete it. I bought P1 and P3 live lectures from interactive studies and was very motivated that I will pass these 2 exams in Sep 2017 but the result was same again failed P1 on 49 and P3 on 46.
I need some help now. As P1 and P3 will merge and become 1 exam from Sep 2018. Should I try to attempt one of the option papers for Dec 2017 and wait for the new exam “Business Strategic Leadership”? Or try to attempt these 2 again for Dec 2017.
After passing F4-F9 and P2 in 1st attempt and with in 1 and half year I was so much motivated that I will be qualified by latest 2013 but that didn’t happen and now at a position I’m thinking I will never be able to complete ACCA.
Need advice from you
Thanks
October 17, 2017 at 11:20 am #412112Well, none of us have seen the Strategic Business Leader exam yet, so we can’t say whether it will be easier to pass than P1 & P3. Personally I am trying to pass them both beforehand as my theory is that learning providers will take a while to get the study materials up to a good standard for the new exam.
However as you have had multiple attempts at both exams without success maybe for you it would be worth trying to get your options done and then trying the new exam. It sounds like the new exam will require you to think on your feet and apply your skills from a wide range of topic areas – do you think this would suit you or not?
Your marks for P1 and P3 are very close to passing though so it doesn’t seem like it would take much to get you to 50+. Perhaps you need to work more on your exam technique than your knowledge. Are you answering every question in the paper or running out of time?
October 17, 2017 at 11:37 am #412121You are getting very close to passing, I’d say to try again while it’s still fresh in your memory. I can’t advise you how or what to do cause I failed P3 recently but passed P2, so disappointed as even though I struggled with time, I was still hoping I did enough, but I only got 45.. So now have to retake it and then do P4 as well. Time is gold here, so if there is an opportunity to take them, try your best, cause you never know.
There are free webinars on ACCA Student Accountant for P1 & P3, 5 sessions each, so would be good to revise using that.

I always run out of time but I always think I did enough to pass though. And also my writing skills are not very professional so probably that’s the factor.

Thanks for your advice. I will have a look at Student Accountant for the webinars.
October 17, 2017 at 3:26 pm #412149I think you need to take it again before September 2018. Because you are very close to passing. I think you need to work more on your exam technique rather knowledge as someone here suggested.
You didn’t answer if you are running out of time on exam and whether you manage to answer all questions? because if you are not , then you are already losing those marks.
I am not sure why I am suggesting something – as I haven’t taken these exams yet but going to in March 2018
October 17, 2017 at 11:23 pm #412211My lecturer for P3 has shown us the combined strategic business leader exam. It’s basically 1 question @ 100 marks and you’re given 4 hours to complete it. The contents are largely the same, except that some duplicated topics are now merged in 1 and you do 2 modules in a single exam.
My lecturer mentioned that since ethics won’t be really tested in P3 since it’s already tested in P1 although it’s part of the syllabus. Plus P1 alone is easier to pass because 30% of the module are risk which you don’t really need to study because risk are inherent and depends on the case studies itself, so you can go in and pick out the anomalies and still pass!
I haven’t pass P3, and taking it in Dec, so I can’t advise you on that. But for P1, I did it on my 1st attempt with very very minimal studies just almost days before the exam. My suggestion to you is, read the ethical theories, but don’t get too fixated on the risk and internal controls.
Risk and internal controls are inherent and are based on the case study, go in and pick out these anomalies/red flags, identify how these may be an issue and concern to the stakeholders and give a reasonable solution (internal controls). Reading the textbooks and pyp helps, but scenario changes, so does the risk and controls, so you must be flexible with them!
November 6, 2017 at 10:54 am #414546I would advise that you take one paper at a time or perhaps change the style of reading, ie if you are used to study by text books, try to drop them and focus more on question practice(within ten years), and built yourself on exam techniques…..congratulations for completing MBA, while you are still struggling with ACCA
good luck
