i’m using BPP text book for P5 and here are the two points i dont really understand so please someone explain it to me in simple words.
1. it implies that there is one best way of doing business- arguably this boils down the difference between efficiency and effectiveness. A process can be efficient but its output may not be useful.
2. the benchmark may b e yesterday’s solution for tomorrow’s problem.
1 – Are you benchmarking what’s important? For example, you might benchmark cost/unit, but what might be important to the organisation is good service ie differentiation.
2 – Benchmarking looks at what organisations have done in the past. Is this really what’s important to future success? Eg many companies are moving to on-line business, so what relevance is benchmarking the rent of conventional shops?
