what is the main difference between utilitarianism and pluralism?
Utilitarianism means making decisions based on the greatest good for the greatest number.
Pluralism is when there are different groups of people, within the same society, who have different beliefs and opinions.
so if a company has decided to press ahead with plans to open a new factory.it will have a detrimental effect on the environment and the local residents, but will make a significant profit. and now company has decided to redesign the factory in order to minimize the impact on residents and environment ,but still make an overall(though lesser)profit than before what would we call this approach?
Could be utilitarianism: profits down (hurting shareholders) but environmental impact less severe (benefiting the rest of us). Whether its the right decision depends on the extent of the benefits and damage.
