    Hi sir,

    The p3 content for swot and tows matrix are very similar, but i could not differentiate when to use swot and when to use tows matrix. Any advice for this? Thank u so much!

    They are the same. It’s really layout.

    SWOT just lists them

    TOWS places them in a matrix which suggests actions eg use strengths to grab an opportunity, if there is a threat in an area you are weak, you might have to withdraw etc.

    Sir i understand the tows matrix. But WT is cofusing. How one can make strategy with weaknesses and threats? as WT is – try to overcome on weaknesses to avoid future threats. Please give an example. so i can understand.. thanku

    You normally can’t – except perhaps withdraw from that market before you waste too much money.

    So, Nokia was threatened by smart phones and new operating systems. It was weak in that area, so sold its phone business to Microsoft.

    Would I be correct in saying the SWOT refers to the strategic position, whereas TOWS refers to the strategic choice?

    Yes you are right. Tows is used for option generatio(choice).
