at the end of the chapter in test question there is a question no 1
where we have to calculate the amount of deprecation for the year ended 31dec2008
in this question i am little bit confused.. can any one plz tel me why we calculate deprecation on disposal for 9month…? in my view we just have to calculate deprecation only for 1st 3month.and remove it frm acc dep a/c…. please somebody explain it to me

We don’t calculate depreciation on the disposal for 9 months!

There is more than one way of doing the workings (all obviously giving the same answer).

In my answer in the Course Notes, I have calculated depreciation on the opening balance of 240,000 for the whole year, and then subtracted depreciation for 9 months on the assets sold. Subtracting it for 9 months is leaving behind the depreciation for the 3 months that we actually owned them.

The only tip I can give you is practice.

You must keep practicing, and practicing under time pressure. It is when you are under time pressure that you make silly mistakes and misread things.

Best of luck on the 17th 🙂
