    Hi tutor!

This might seem like a silly question but how many decimal places are we supposed to round up to?
I usually do to 2 places but in the revision kit, especially in Sec A and B and sometimes even in Sec C, I’ve noticed in many questions that its rounded up to the closest whole number or to just one decimal place WITHOUT anything being specified in the question as to how many places.

I’m aware that its recommended in learning curve questions to work with numbers having up to 3 decimal places. What would be the appropriate solution for this since when big numbers are involved, the difference of one decimal place could result in huge differences between the answers.

Thank you and God bless you!

For learning curve calculations, you should never round to less than three decimal places. Over-rounding can lead to significant errors, especially when the learning effect is small.

For Section A, the number of decimal places required will be clear in the exam from the choices of answers provided.

For Section B, rounding is generally not a major concern as the marks are mostly for the workings or again it will be clear! If you are doing it the right way.

For Section C, the exam will specify the number of decimal places to use, or the computer will be programmed to accept a range of answers.
