Which area of F5 we should focus more for Dec14 exam ?
And in which order we should answer the questions (ie: first the 20 questions and then the last 5 questions) ?
June 30, 2014 at 11:30 am #177880The exam tests all areas of the syllabus – you cannot focus on one area more than others.
You can attempt the questions in any order, whichever is best for you.

Hi John,
Nice to be on your course again . (My wife said a couple of years ago that she’ll miss hearing your voice once I finish studying). 🙂Thank you for providing these lecutres for free. I find them better than many of the commercial courses I have also been on for the same papers.
With the exam format changing does that change any of study approach? With 40% of the exam being multi choice I’m concerned there won’t be marks for workings just 2 marks for a correct answer, and 0 for a wrong one. Is that correct?
Presumably the lectures and examples will still be relevant to working out the answers to the new style questions, and obviously I’ll be working through past papers, but do worry that there won’t be enough practice questions out there at the moment (except for the pilot paper maybe) to enable a thorough prepartion.
Thank you
July 1, 2014 at 2:12 pm #177960Hi, and thank you for your comments (and your wife’s also 🙂 )
The change of format does not affect the actual studying – the syllabus has not changed and so the studying remains the same.
The multiple choice element of the exam does mean that for these questions you are correct – there are no marks for workings. (Although many of them will be choosing from written statements, where workings are not relevant.)
For both sections of the exam it is vital that you practice as many questions as possible and best is to get hold of a Revision / Exam Kit from one of the approved publishers.
Otherwise, past exam questions are fine for practicing Section B of the exam. For Section A, I am currently preparing a bank of multiple choice questions for practice that will be uploaded later in the summer. In the meantime, there is plenty for you to study first 🙂

July 12, 2014 at 6:45 pm #178749Hello
I am sitting for F5 December 2014. I was wondering if I am still able to use the BPP study textbook which is valid up to June 2014.
And my second question is:
When will BPP revision kit for December 2014 be available?July 16, 2014 at 6:50 am #178963Yes – you can use the same textbook. The syllabus for F5 has not changed (only the format(layout) of the exam)
I do not work for BPP, but I do know that their Revision Kit for December 2014 is already available and has been for some time.

All changes to papers are listed on the ACCA website
July 17, 2014 at 8:35 am #179049andreasmacfarlane: that you for the link, but please don’t answer in this forum – it is the Ask the Tutor Forum, and you are not the tutor 🙂
fikideen: The format of the P level papers is not changing (so there are no multiple choice questions). As regard the syllabuses, you can use the link above or look at our summaries which you can find here:

August 8, 2014 at 1:13 pm #188485Hi John,
Are you going to update the ACCA exam tips for December 2014 ?
August 8, 2014 at 5:22 pm #188622Of course. We give new tips for each exam.
(But we will not give them until nearer to the exam – you cannot rely on tips from anywhere. They are only guesses and it is vital that you study all areas of the syllabus – even more so now that part of the exam is multiple choice questions, which means that everything can be tested.)

Hi John,
I planned to resit F5 for this Dec 2014 exam and the last exam i took was back in Dec 2011.
I’ve check on the study guide from ACCA website, and notice that there are some changes on questioning method. I planned to self study on my own.
Kindly advise.
August 18, 2014 at 5:39 am #190795You can find details of the changes to the format on this page:
https://opentuition.com/acca/f5/paper-f5-changes-december-2014-exams/
Although the syllabus for December has not changed from June 2014, there have been some changes since December 2011, and you would be advised to get new books. There are free lectures on the website on everything in the current syllabus.
August 28, 2014 at 12:06 pm #192630Hello John,
I have a query regarding the F5 on December 2014 I am planning to resit.
You keep saying that the syllabus for December has not changed only the structure of the exam lay out.But on the acca site they say that regarding the syllabus there were no deletion but there are some additions ..If we have additions doesn’t that mean that this is a change?Or I am confused?Thank you in advance.August 28, 2014 at 3:32 pm #192674If you read the syllabus carefully, it says that the additions are to clarify the syllabus. They are all things that were already examinable – all they are doing is changing the wording of the syllabus in a few places to leave no confusion.
