Hi,
In the exam panic I used the wrong figure for the FV of the NCI when calculating Goodwill on the second sub.
Any idea what that will cost me in marks?
My concern is that this error will affect my calculation not just of the G/W but also of NCI and the impairment (which I calulated correctly but obviously continued to use the wrong figure)December 14, 2012 at 11:15 am #111548“Alas (!) I passed the paper” You really wanted to do it gain but, unfortunately, you passed???!!!
Jamie – we all make mistakes. We wouldn’t be human if we didn’t. Yes, it’s going to cost you because your goodwill figure is incorrect. But the marker will see that it’s just a silly mistake, particularly if you have said something like “Fair value of nci, per question” and then you’ve put the incorrect amount.
And although silly mistakes do cost, you would be desperately unlucky if such an error cost you more than one mark.
Now, let’s be realistic! What difference is it going to make to your immediate future if I were to be incorrect? You’re not going to change the result. Worrying about it is going to get you nowhere so …… don’t worry. Be happy! 🙂
December 14, 2012 at 1:15 pm #111549Yeah, thanks chaps, pretty much what I was thinking.
I think I’ve done enough to pass, so don’t imagine it will be a deal-breaker.
I was just cheesed-off that I spoilt a decent answer !December 14, 2012 at 9:12 pm #111550But we’ve all been there – get over it!

examiner has clearly outlined that it follows a method marking system
so if you have clearly illustrated all your calculation else where, you would lose marks in NCI only
December 17, 2012 at 11:30 am #111552….which I think is pretty much what I said! Incidentally, my opening comment in my first post “Alas, I passed” was a quote from a post which has since been deleted so now doesn’t make sense!
