Good Day,
I would really appreciate if you can post either the video or audio lecture for D Shaped Groups. I realised it was not included in the collection of videos.
I was trying to work it out for myself (Chapter 3, Example 4 & 5), but I cannot seem to figure out how you arrived at the fractions of 2/15, 10/15 etc.
I looked at the tvopentuition site but the D Complex Group question there was worked out using the Kaplan format and I am already familiar with the format used by the P2 Online Tutor, which is much simplier and easier to understand.
Please help !!!!
I am doing this paper self study.Greatly appreciate any assistance you may give.
thanks in advance,

KellyAugust 16, 2010 at 11:16 am #62027Hi Ladies
Can you get to the figure of $80,000 being the cost of the parent’s investment in the sub-subsidiary? It’s the value of the investments in parent’s SoFP less the investment in the subsidiary and less the investment in the work of the local artist. That leaves $80,000 invested in the sub-subsidiary and we’re told that shares cost $2 each, so parent buys 40,000 shares.
In addition, subsidiary invests $400,000 in buyng sub-subsidiary shares, at $2 each, that’s 200,000 shares.
In total, there are 300,000 shares in sub-subsidiary.
So parent has 40 / 300 = 2 / 15, subsidiary has 200 / 300 = 10 / 15 (it’s easier to work in fractions rather than decimals in this question! )
Does that answer your question?
