Current issues for September exam?

Read all the recent articles on the standards from 2016 and 2017 on the CPD section of ACCA’s website, as well as the last couple technical articles on the P2 section, and you should be well covered. There is articles from the examiner himself up there. If you do know what is going on in the accounting world and are well clued up then Q4 is possibly the easiest question on the paper (that’s not to say it won’t still be hard).

They go into a lot of detail but if you pull just the main points out you should be fine. Don’t read the articles on IFRS 17 though as it’s basically a successor to IFRS 4 and that is not on our syllabus.

Lots of people tipping leases to come up in Q4 but if I have learnt anything about this examiner over the last 3 months or so it’s that he loves being unpredictable and loves dooming question spotters. Therefore I doubt leases, despite it being a wildly hot topic for a Q4 at the moment, will come up this session. I would expect it more for the December sitting.

Having said that leases will probably show up somewhere in our exam. Either as a Q1 adjustment or probably thrown in with the mixed bag of standards on Q2 and 3. Possibly asked along with IAS 12. There really are just no guarantees for this paper so learn at the very least the basics of all the standards and know how to do all kinds of group accounts.

I will respect the examiners and ACCA’s wish for him to not be named, but if you look hard enough online you will find his name somewhere.
