what is a covering letter in banking?
It could be all sorts of things – it depends on the context.
However it is of no relevance whatsoever for Paper FA.
I read this question in my practice book
which of the following are appropriate documents to send with a payment, to inform the recipient what the payment is for and who it is from?
1.remittance advice
2.bank giro credit form
3.covering letter
4.cheque requisition form
a)1,2,3
b)1,2 only
c)1,2,3,4
Assuming that you are using a Revision Kit form one of the ACCA approved publishers (BPP or Kaplan) as you should be doing, then there will be an answer in the book !!!
For the answer to your question, read chapter 28 of our free lecture notes.
They will always send (1), they might send (2) with it if they did pay directly through the bank (as opposed to sending a cheque). They might choose to send a letter with them as well, but there is certainly no need to.
