Dear John (and team at Open Tuition)
Firstly, i’d like to express my sincere gratitude for the material that is available through this website, and moreover that its free. I’ve found it is easy enough to understand through what could be complex knowledge simplified by the the likes of John so far. I’ve only just started about 8 weeks ago on my first two syllabus’s; MA & FA. This is after a 10 year hiatus from passing AAT level 4.
More to my point, i’m hoping to take my first two exams in early December. I’ve just covered all the tutorial videos on Monday and purchased a revision kit from BPP using the 20% discount (which thank you for this as well). However, i’m noticing that there is some knowledge from questions in the first 3 chapters of the revision kit that don’t seem to be covered by the tutorials. Things like:
1. Continuous, discrete, nominal and ordinal data – I’m needing to find out more about this which feels ad-hoc. (i found this to be the case when doing the quiz straight after the lectures)
2. Definitions of charts and graphs (and what each is best suited to with the data in question).
3. Costs of producing primary or secondary data
4. Controllable costs and behavioural effects
5. Period costs and its best description
6. Something abut a 5 digit coding system has come up
7. Fixed cost included in the high/low method
8. Variable cost per unit dropped by $1 after 15,000 units and was required to use the high/low method to find the variable cost per unit for each unit of output above 15,000Then looking ahead on this BPP revision kit, there is:
– Data Analysis & Statistical Techniques; 4: Forecasting and 5: Summarising and analysing data.I apologise if i’m getting my wires crossed, but i’m a little worried that i won’t be prepared enough come the exam. I would welcome your thoughts and direction on this.
Best regards,

The topics you mention are either covered in our lectures, or should be easily dealt with provided you understand what is covered in the lectures, or are fairly minor areas that are unlikely to ever be many marks in the exam.
Our aim is to ensure that students watching our lectures are able to pass the exam with a good mark – not necessarily be able to get 100% in the exam. (And if you read other posts from students on the website, it is clear that most do pass the exam well.)
The one thing that we cannot replicate from face-to-face courses is the ability to ask questions in class, which is why we have this Ask the Tutor Forum.
If, having studied everything by watching out lectures, you then attempt every question in your Revision Kit and ask in the Ask the Tutor Forum about any questions you require clarification on, then you should certainly be able to pass the exam with a good mark.
