A coal extraction company provides safety equipment to its employees to avoid accidents and injuries during extraction operations. In an effort to cut costs, it has changed its supplier for safety equipment, using lower-grade equipment that has consequently resulted in frequent but minor injuries to its workers. These have been reported to the operations manager but he is of the view that these are only minor injuries and workers should continue with the equipment from the new changed supplier. However, the workers’ trade union has voiced its concerns and the media has caught on to the problem. Now the manager is considering taking up the issue of quality with the new supplier.
How would you describe this strategy with regard to social responsibility?
Select the correct option
Proactive
Defence
Reactive
Accommodation
Wheremaremthese questions from? A book? Part of an assignment? Presumably answers are or will be available to you.
Sir, it’s part of practice for exam, i have answers kit as well..but i am confused with book answer… Book is taking “Reactive” as correct answer.. But i think it should be “Accomodation”.
I think reactive is right because the mamager is reacting to publicity or trade union pressure to think about improving safety.
However, there can be an argument for accommodation as the company clearly has taken some steps to increase safety.
Thank you very much..
