For corporate parenting role ( portfolio manager, synergy manger , parental developer) can more than one rationale co-exist in a particular corporation? And why.

Could do. For example a diversified group might have some subsidiaries where synergy might be possible. Others might be so different that the only logical way of managing them is the hands-off, portfolio manager approach.
