Hello
I have a question.
I am using secondary source of information for complete RAP, except one instance, wherein I have to inquire some information from the company’s employee, as this information is not available through secondary sources of information.
I understand that in this case, I shall also enclose the questions and their responses of the interview, as an annexure to the report.
However, I just noticed that in case of primary source of information, Copy of the letter of authorization from a senior person in the organization is also required. So in my case, even though I shall be interviewing one employee (2-3 questions only), the authorization letter will be required ?
Please confirm .
Thanks
November 6, 2017 at 10:41 am #414542In the past students used to claim that they interviewed the CFO and other senior management and markers apparently were very sceptical of this.
For ethical reasons primary data collection requires permission so this rule requirement was included in the Information Pack to stop claims and to ensure that primary data was authentic (a particular problem with topic 6 where it is believed that students attempt to make up the data and even invent non-existent companies).
If you don’t include any authentic evidence about the person it will be ignored. However if a significant amount of your work depends on this person’s comments it will be failed for lack of independent verification unless there is some reliable evidence to substrate their comments.

Thanks

January 7, 2018 at 12:42 pm #427551A small problem:
I have to write on topic 6 but I am not getting the permission to write questionnaires on company letter head. Please suggest me way out.
Secondly normally how many questions are to be asked on questionnaires and how many employees feedback do I need?
January 8, 2018 at 7:47 am #427651@ahsan576 – the questionnaire itself doesn’t have to be on the company letterhead however the permission from a named senior person does. I am not sure there is an alternative to this as it is sent out as a requirement in the Information Pack in relation to primary data collection.
There will normally be about 10 or 12 questions. I suggest that you look at about 3 (at most 4 theories (personally I would choose Herzberg, Vroom and McClelland. Most students though go for Maslow -probably because his theory is easy to understand and just because it is easy t produce questions. I think it is important when selecting to consider how relevant these theories are today (most of them were developed 50 or 60 years ago in the USA) and in the cultural context of the working environment of the country where you are applying them (another reason probably that Maslow is chosen)
Then phrase the, questions around the various theories. For example “Achievement in my job is important to me” or a variation of this ‘Recognition of my achievements and efforts by my supervisor is very important for me’ (strongly agree/ agree/ neither agree nor disagree / disagree / strongly disagree). The first would be suitable for McClelland and the second for Herzberg. Something like “There is little connection between effort and reward” or “There does not seem to be a fair system of promotion” could be used for Vroom.
