Hey,
I have been watching the podcasts of F7, available here in opentuition. My question is regarding goodwill. I here in Pakistan have learned a method from my teacher for goodwill as:Cost of Investment x
FV of SNA
reserves and sh Cap/pre x
Holding x%
(x)
Parent’s goodwill x
FV of Nci (Given) x
reserves & sh cap/pre x
holding x%
(x)
NCI goodwill x
Consolidated Goodlwill x
Impairment review (x)
Bk value of g’will xand here in the lectures it’s quite different there is no computation for Nci’ goodwill and the teacher Mike I suppose who’s very good says there is no concept of NCI g’will.
I hope you’ll reply soon

Where the nci is proportional, there is no goodwill attributable to the nci.
If the nci is valued on a full, fair value basis, then there IS goodwill attributable to them.
However, the layout I have shown is the layout which Steve Scott at F7 and Graham Holt at P2 expect you to use
November 14, 2012 at 3:31 pm #107246So if I use this format I’d be getting full marks for goodwill?
November 14, 2012 at 6:25 pm #107247If you use my format, yes.
I cannot comment on your lecturer’s method
