Hi sir, I’m planning on studying paper F4 for this session.
I’ve used opentuition for studying some other papers and have found it helpful.
Hence I went on to take a look at the F4 page when I came across 2 different types of study materials and their corresponding video lectures, one being English version and the other being the global version.I’m confused, I live in Qatar and I don’t know what exactly you mean by English version but (Does it mean England specific?) please let me know.
My confusion is that I’m not sure which one to study, English or global or both.I would highly appreciate it if you could tell me more about :
+ each of them.
+ differences between them.
+ learning which particular one would be necessary (Or if learning both of them is necessary).
+ Is there a region specificity for making the choice? (And does English mean only for the UK?)Ty in advance.
December 29, 2017 at 8:50 am #426699The really important factor as to which option to choose is whether it is anywhere within your ambition to practice as a qualified accountant in the UK. Because, if that’s your goal, then you must select the English variant (and UK variant for F6 taxation, UK variant for P2 Advanced Corporate Reporting and UK variant for P7 Advanced Audit and Assurance)
If your ambitions do not include practicing in the UK as a qualified accountant, then the choice is not as important
English and UK variants are not restricted to students from the UK – anyone may select those variants
The differences in the 2 main F4 variants (English and Global) lie mainly in the subject matter within their respective syllabi.
In the English variant there is a lot more emphasis on contract law whereas the Global variant considers International (basically UN) matters such a Sale of Goods and Arbitration
Each is as difficult as the other – there’s no easy option
You need to learn only one, not both
At the moment there is a full suite of recorded lectures only for the English variant – the Global variant syllabus overlaps with the English variant so there is coverage of around 50% – 60% of the global syllabus covered by recorded lectures (of course, the two sets of notes are substantially up to date with only minor amendments to be out through
But as I type this response I am scheduled to record today another set of Global lectures so it won’t be too long before there is a full Global suite
In addition, of course, I am always here to answer any questions that you may come across where you don’t understand the notes or lectures
What is of tremendous importance is, no matter which variant you select, it is vital that you acquire an up-to-date revision kit from one of the approved publishers and start practicing answering mcqs and mtqs as soon as that book arrives in your possession
I sincerely doubt that the money spent on a study text is worth it – save that money for your later studies
Hint: when answering the mcqs in the revision kit, do NOT write your effort in the book itself. Write them on a separate piece of paper and thus avoid being influenced in your later efforts by your earlier responses
Does that answer everything for you?
