Dear John,
Hello!
Last night I had an attempt on the whole MCQ section of June 2015 paper under exam conditions (I used 40 mins although i know based on 1 mark per 1.8 mins i should have spent 72 mins on this section). I scored 24 out of 40 (40 marks available in Section A). The correct rate is 60%.
I now have following questions:
1. Do you think such performance is more than acceptable although 50% is required?
2. Along with more practice on Kit, should I revisit the syllabus areas in the Textbook in order to reinforce the understanding? Or alternative, could you please advise me what should I do further?
3. For Section B, Do you have any specific suggestions for tackling questions i.e the order of to attempt?
4. The last question is, for practice purpose, how many marks should I expect or intended to achieve in the practice although I know the more, the better?
Thank you in advance for your support!
Have a nice weekend!
August 7, 2015 at 6:50 pm #266127If you got 60% then you are passing, but you should aim as high as possible – in the real exam you are likely to be more stressed and therefore make more mistakes.
The best way to study is to watch all of our free lectures (with the free lecture notes in front of you) – they contain all you need to pass the exam well. You do not need to use the Study Text – just use it to refer to any areas that you realise you don’t really understand.
Otherwise it is question practice that is vital. You must have a current edition of a Revision Kit from one of the approved publishers and you should practice every question and learn from the answers – especially the written parts of questions. 50% of the exam will be questions that do not involve calculations.
There is no best way of approaching Section B. I would spend part of the 15 minutes reading time looking at the requirements in section B and deciding then which order to attempt them in (sensibly those topics you feel most confident about would be the first to attempt).

August 7, 2015 at 8:05 pm #266136Dear John,
Sorry to bother you again.
Further to your reply, could you please advise me how much time should I spend on Section A and B as well?
For the constraint of time & marks, I know 1.8 mins per mark. However, I think Section B should need more attention as it has heavier weighting (60% instead of 40%). I normally finish Section A with 45 mins and the rest of time is for Section B. Do you think this allocation is good or at least, is acceptable?
Thank you once again!
Kind regards,
August 7, 2015 at 9:00 pm #266150You should allocate 1.8 minutes per mark. Section B is more marks, but at 1.8 minutes per mark you will be allocating more time to it!!
If you finish Section A quickly then no problem. However it is easier to get marks in Section B because the marks are more for your approach – the final answer is almost irrelevant. In Section A you get no marks for approach – it is either right or wrong!
