Many investors buy shares because they like the dividend policy (some like to get high dividends but with little growth from year to year; others prefer to get a lower dividend but a dividend that grows each year).
If you have invested in a shares in a company because you like their dividend policy, then you will not be happy if the company decides to change the policy.
